Other Hobbies?

Oh man, that's a great lefty Regular. Judging by the belly on that blade, guessing it's BG42 steel. Regulars are my focus in collecting now. I used to chase the latest and greatest custom but have been keeping it simple in recent years. CRK, Laconico & Mayo are my main interest.
Funny thing about that lefty. It used to belong to Tom Mayo (also a left hander). The blade is different, because, he put his own grind on it. Sadly, I lost my other small unique graphic. It was an early one too. Your Mayo is top notch. I just never got around to getting one.

The above is a full custom Hinderer, "Dauntless". An early Triple Aught Design collaboration. And it's a lefty.

Love that TAD Hinderer collab.

That’s pretty cool your Regular was once Tom’s. I’ve got one of the Regulars he modded before CRK asked him to stop.

I like that one. I think Tom once said, that there is no better knife than the Sebenza. I would agree. I need to pick up another user, one of these days. I dropped the small one in the snow one morning. It still kills me to this day.

I sold off all my bow hunting gear and bow in a realization life was getting more complicated not less, and I would probably never get a chance to go big game hunting. Catapults kinda fill that void of needing to fling projectiles

I hope this thread stays up for awhile cause it give an insight to folks here.

Most of my hobbies are done with …

1. I used to run. For 41 years. It was the one thing i was better than average at. But this year i had to stop because advanced arthritis in my back and bone spurs pressing on a nerve. (I manage it through physical therapy exercises), but it sucks giving up something that i identified with more than half my life.

2. Also i used to bowl until recently. For fifteen years i bowled on a league my brother put together. I bowled about as good as I flyfished. My average was about 121 on a good year, but i once bowled a 173. I can no longer bowl for the same reason i can no longer run. Hahaha.. I think like OMJ we need an OWJ. I even have the right initial!

3. I read a lot and usually average about a book a week.

4. I like to write. And i like research. It was my favorite task in my job at the union office. I still like doing it.

5. I do like cooking. I have learned about cast iron cooking from folks who post here. (@iveofione !) I quit dutch oven bread baking. I actually made some really good Dutch oven bread (again thanks to forum members here) but i love carbs too much and i had to cut it back.

6. I’m not good at any other hobbies….except maybe articulating my opInion.

My hobbies kind of ebb and flow as far as what I’m focusing on at any given time, but other than fly fishing and fly tying I’ve got:
- birding
- woodworking
- spoon carving
- home brewing
- beer judging
- cooking
I’m going to start a hobby of “beer judging:”. hahahaha.. i didn’t know it was a thing!

I've also been baking bread weekly for almost 6 months. Do you have any killer recipes for crispy, crackly crust / open crumb white bread that you'd be willing to share?
I'll add my recipe soon although it is constantly evolving as I learn new nuances to the baking process. Probably the best way to get crispy, crackly crust is to bake in a dutch oven. I have some dutch ovens but seldom use them as I don't like the resultant round loaves. Do some research on adding steam to your bread baking, you will probably get better oven spring.

Gots a wine cellar with anywhere from 80-180 bottles, depending on seasonal offerings (121 right now, but that number goes down weekly), definitely consider wine a hobby.
I gots a tidy collection of hand-built acoustic instruments that get love from late october to april, but usually spend the summers in cases - both my vocations are salmonid-centric and involve my hands being wet for most of the day....the pickers among us will understand.
I certainly enjoy my kitchen time, and consider cooking more of an avocation than hobby - I like cooking for fam and close friends, and like trying new dishes and cuisines.
Crossword fanatic. I dig rippin thru the NY times crosswords on a pretty much daily basis, and hitting their 20yr archive when I'm bored.
Hunting is making a comeback in my life after a decade+ hiatus - now that my badass wife is rrrrrreally getting into hunting, I figured I would dust off my gear and join her. Definitely been fun.

My other hobbies include...
- weightlifting. I compete in bodybuilding competitions for the female 'bikini' division. And lifting heavy things is fun.
- cooking.
- backpacking. (and fishing)
- hiking.
- sports.
- collecting pressed pennies. I started collecting pressed pennies when I was 4.
- film photography and film cameras. My father is a huge film camera collector, so I am lucky to borrow different cameras to take on my backpacking trips! Here's a photo of a fishy lake :)

Now that I think about it my other hobbies have really contracted since kids. I play 1 soccer match weekly, which I really enjoy, and occasional guitar or drums, usually by myself anymore, which isn’t as fun to me alone as it is with other people or in a band, hence ”occasional.”
