NFR And So Touron Season Begins . . .

"Earie" resemblance . . .

Not sure if this belongs in the touron thread, or the backyard wildlife thread, but as I was sipping my coffee and glancing out of our kitchen window this a.m., I saw a coyote (nice, healthy looking adult) step out of a stand of trees at the edge of the property adjacent to ours. The coyote made for a small dog (on leash) being walked on our street.

The owner just stood there motionless and silent as the coyote moved up. The dog seemed - rightfully - very concerned.

I bailed out through my front door and yelled, scaring the coyote away. The pet owner (turns out English was not first language) seemed more scared by me than he was/should have been of the coyote seeking to get into mischief with his little Shiba Inu. I’m not certain he understood that it WAS a coyote.

I mean, seeing some good sized dude in his flannel boxers yelling something unintelligible might seem confusing. Even so, you think he might have been bit more situationally aware. I’m thinking he was 100% city boy. When he goes to Yellowstone someday, he seems like the type who will DEFINITELY try to get super close for a pic - maybe even with food in hand - with a big critter.

I knew we had a couple of coyotes living in the neighborhood. This sighting was the boldest I have had of one of them though. Mixed feelings; predators keep the balance and they are likely keeping the squirrel and rabbit population under control, but on flip side would be bummed if my 94yo neighbor’s cute little companion dog got killed.

So, we had a coyote pup on the front porch - caught on camera. Another day, an adult through the yard. Then one running across a main road another day. There has been scat in the yard and in the past, cat parts... Part of living close to a 39 acre preserve.

My cat has probably seen way too much. I’m sure she was treed last week as she didn’t come in at night. And, a lot of pitch on her back feet.

Been slow on the wildlife sightings front for me lately. Not much beyond the usual deer, lots of fawns with mom out surveying the foliage.
Still waiting on samsquanch, or an alien...
