What credit card do people like

Some posts above mentioned the, interest rates credit card companies charge. And that ain't all. For the second time in 20+ years I wrote the check for the monthly bill and set it with the outgoing mail. Then set other stuff on top of it, the result being I sent it the day it was due, and they posted it paid two days late. I usually send it two weeks or more early, but no credit for that, No Way! They charged me $29 in interest and $33 late fee, or maybe vice versa, but $62 because it was two days late! As a believer that stupidity should hurt, I went ahead and paid it, not that I have a choice cuz they are all about "rules is rules." Fvckin' insane. Not the kinda' people I want to be borrowing money from, 'bout the same terms as the Mob.

I've only been late to pay once on accident and it was painful to pay the tax on my own stupidity. When you pay it off every month the benefits are hard to beat though. I have the equivalent of about $4,000 in Chase/Amex points just from buying things that I would have bought anyway. When I travel I barely have to pay for anything other than food.

Ive had the same card for 10+ years, every once in a while I pay late by accident. I call them up and ask for the fees/interest to be credited back because Im a loyal customer and they usually do.

Some of those intro low interest rate cards are just waiting for you to be a day late not only for the late charges but many will jack there interest rate on you too. Fine print states something like as long as you make the minimum and timely payments your rate will remain at the special X % but once you fail to meet minimum or timely payments your rate will automatically climb to X + 9 or whatever the number is. Usually significantly higher tho.

I like my REI Cap one card. Gives an additional 5% dividend to the 10% REI dividend for REI purchases. As for airline miles I have absolutely no need to acquire...never flying again after my recent extremely unpleasant experiences.

As for card interest...what's that? I pay off the balances every month, and have made payments via my credit union's online system for many years so there's no reason for a late payment. We probably write less than 10 checks a year (vehicle tabs and property taxes).

Decades ago we had a mortgage holder that consistently held mailed checks until after due dates so they could extract penalties...even when sent weeks before due date. They would also refuse to accept mail via certified delivery. Eventually the scumbags got indicted and convicted for fraud.

I use the same card for all purchases and have it linked to auto pays for monthly recurring bills. It is automatically paid in full monthly and the rewards pay for a 1st class ticket to Norway and any place else I go over the course of the year. I don't know what their interest rate is as it is never a factor.

I have made the same mistake. A quick phone call to the CC company and all charges were reimbursed.

Amazon card for anything ordered from them. I use a card from the company that holds my retirement account for most everything else. All points from that card are rolled into the account.

I've noticed that more and more businesses (small and large) are adding on 3% credit card fees to purchases. It is slowly killing off the credit card points game.

For several decades used the same credit card and earned lots and lots of miles. Took advantage of those miles many times. Now we do not travel as much so we donate miles every year to worthy causes. We always have enough miles in our account for future needs, anticipated or unanticipated.

As someone that works for REI I like this guys card. Spend all your money at REI for those sweet kick backs!

We use the Alaska card - it's covered airfare for my family and I on 6-7 trips so far using the accumulated miles. Haven't paid a dime in interest.

Where I used to have my nails at, the owner would charge his customers $1.50 for card processing fees. I quit using my credit union debit card at his place (He would run the card as a credit card when it plainly says DEBIT on it. ) I went to a nail salon right around the block that just charges a flat fee for doing the nails. I don't get perks for the debit card...I don't fly anyhoo...

This is for travel purposes
first of all we charge everything we can, but we never fail to pay it off monthly
My wife has us going between Marriott Bonvoy until you get to platinum, and then we use the typical Alaska Air BankAmerica card to accumulate miles. We try to NOT fly Alaska any longer as they have gone downhill, but the One World partner airlines can be great.
We also have an Amex Platinum card through Delta Airlines. It's close to $600/year but it comes with a companion fare that is good for first class, which Alaska Air does not allow. Plus there are other benefits to the Amex card that if you take advantage of them the card pretty much pays for itself.

This will likely bugged up where you can use certain cards.

Some unfortunate reporting in that article.

"Under the proposed settlement, Visa and Mastercard would lower credit card interchange fees — which are paid by merchants and are typically between 2 and 2.5 percent — to an average of around 0.1 percentage point over several years"

Seemed pretty unbelievable to me. A quick Google search confirms that it would drop the interchange fee BY 0.1%. So 1.9-2.4%.....

I got a REI Cap one card as my back-up card.

I did notice that the interest rate was 33%. I did ask Capitol One if they sent people out to break their legs if there were issues with the bill. I think you can get a better interest rate from the Mafia. I suspect you might get a couple of broken bones for the lower interest rate however.

They also have a tight window for paying your bill on time.

I think they are going to get cancelled soon.

I do almost all my business with credit unions. Last time, I got a new credit card I called the customer service number on the back. A person at the credit union in Spokane answered the phone.

Call the customer service number before you get a credit card. It will save you lots of grief in the future.

I did want a MasterCard for travel in Canada and other foreign countries. Ah, might be simpler to bypass Canada!!

Well known Pusher's favorite!!! You can PUSH THIS CARD HARD. Really rip off the offer if you know I mean!!

Ever since Lionel rated this card #3 on his "2012 Cards To Watch" list in Forbes Magazine December 2011, internet forums like REDDIT have uncovered SEVERAL MAIN WAYS TO PUSH THIS CARD INTO ABUSIVE LEVELS!!! Many have ridden away into the sunset financially with a quick low effort Cash Grab thanks to the famed BONVOY. Unnatural gains!!!

Probably top 5 favorite cards of all time for me!!!

I have only dealt with credit unions for decades now - for banking, credit cards, and car loans. My credit union offers a low interest rate credit card that is about half the interest rate noted above. That is better for me than rewards, because I tend to carry a balance on the CC (try as I might to avoid that). I can always get a real person on the phone and they know me (and my dog) at the local branch drive up window.
