The 2025 NFL Season Discussion

My point is that there hasn't been any variety for the past few years. It's all been the same genre. Wouldnt hurt to switch it up a little from time to time.
For whatever reason (I blame advertiser demographic demands), that has always happened to some extent. At least in the modern era of SB halftime shows. It'll likely shift again as generations age and popular music changes.

2005-2010 (older rock)
Paul McCartney
Rolling Stones
Prince
Tom Petty
Bruce Springsteen
The Who

2012-2018 (solo radio pop artists)
Madonna
Beyonce
Bruno Mars
Katy Perry
Coldplay (radio friendly rock exception)
Lady Gaga
Justin Timberlake

I eat, take a leak, make more food...
I rarely even know who was on the halftime show a few weeks after the game. Just not important to me.

Titans fire head coach Callahan...
And so it begins

My kids have loved the selections the last few years.

Musical taste is subjective. The Bad Bunny dude is objectively extremely popular. It's hard to logically say many other artists would appeal to more people or get more people to tune in.
I’m currently on a five hour drive to San Diego…our agreement is we each get one hour apiece to choose the music for the drive…I choose blues and rock, my youngest daughter rap & hip hop, my wife a mix of both…they currently are ganging up on me with the hip hop, and Bad Bunny has been blaring a few times…I have strategically pulled over to In N Out to get a break…

I miss the days of the large marching bands as a part of the main show. Highly calligraphed routines, typical music, baton twirlers, gaggles of tuba players, and a large group of drummers. We would take bets just prior to half-time on how many missteps would occur - winner take all pot.

I agree with others, the half-time show is not for who is at the game spending huge money, but rather the targeted audience of people watching from afar. It is all about the money from advertising and increasing the numbers watching aka ratings.

You must love college ball. Did this ever occur at NFL games?

Yes - in the early days. It still occurs nowadays e.g. Usher as the main focal recently. Marching bands are more in pre-game shows or as a part of the side show during the main event (to fill up the field).

fave half time shows in no particular order...

Bruce Springsteen w/E Street Band
Bruno Mars with the Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rolling Stones
Prince
U2

Bad Bunny was on SNL last weekend, came across as articulate and likable, did surprisingly well in the skits I skimmed through (only there for Weekend Update).
8 billion folks of every color and belief on a rapidly shrinking rock...and we should be less tolerant, not more?

I always wanted to see Flipper, Fear, Black Flag, and the Dead Kennedys do the halftime show...but that never happened.

Bummer...

I never thought about boycotting the NFL because I didn't get my way though...

Actually haven't watched the halftime show for a really long time, I watch the football, and so...probably won't watch it this year either.
😁🤣😁

Maybe there should be a thread on half-time shows - Let's talk football, or is everyone now trembling after the Chiefs dismantling of the Lions last night 😝

Go Chiiefs

Seahawks won...
That's good for the board as a whole.
After all...

with the Lions playing without four of their starting corners and safeties, it would have been surprising if the Chiefs didn't win last night, as Mahomes pretty much had his way against the backups.
Chiefs weakness remains the run game, their offensive line is currently ranked 31st in run block win rate, and is only ranked higher on pass blocking because Mahomes has the best feet in the league for avoiding tackles and buying time on the move.
End of the year will as always come down to which of the best teams can lineup with the least amount of starters out from injury.

I was never a big Prince fan…but he crushed the halftime show…killer guitarist. I was sure he was going to get electrocuted due the rain (not purple rain)…

Seahawks secondary has been out pretty much for 2 weeks now.
Hopefully we get Witherspoon and Love back, and Emanwori all at the same time....

sheesh....guess I'm gonna have to bust this one out early this year....

Personally, never had heard of the SB halftime performer this year....but I'll sure be tuning in, and I'm sure I'm going to enjoy it.
