What Are You Eating?

We have a family tradition of "chuck wagon apples" on hikes. You core the apple, pack the now empty tube with peanut butter, then wrap in foil. Delicious!
I’ll give that a shot this week but it sounds a bit too β€œprepared”. Like to grab a Granny, a spoon and some Justin’s and go sit on the deck and watch the hummers dance 5 feet away. Good for the soul.
That’s right…it’s apple pickin’ time in your old zip code it Vt! Sister from Putney would bring me some Mac’s from that orchard on Rt 5 every September.

That's just plain weird. How do ya' even think up such a concoction?
Which part is weird? These are all basic foods, I just adjust the treatment and seasonings to fit a theme. In this case we were using leftover tahini dressing from chicken shawarma wraps plus stuff that needed to be eaten from the garden (beets, zucchini) and pantry staples (farro, chickpeas, lebneh).

Haven eaten a bunch of Levantine foods, all of the flavors and ingredients in this meal appear somewhere in that cuisine so I knew they'd play nice together. Not only that, it's packed with flavor, fiber, and vitamins while not being calorically dense. Seems perfectly normal to me.

Not everyone has labneh as a pantry staple…but I do like it…

I don't mean that it is a pantry staple for everyone, just that it is at my house.

And I understand that I had the luck of living my formative years in a major metro area during a time where one could find a WIDE variety of cuisine offerings from which to learn and draw inspiration.

It’s one of the things I enjoyed about living in Hawaii for over 40 years…the various ethnic foods that made up every day meals

In Hawaiian Pidgin, "lā dat" or "l'dat" is a combination of the words "like" and "that," meaning "like that". It's a common phrase used to describe a manner or method, such as "I like it just l'dat" (I like it just like that) or "You jus gotta do em liddat" (You just have to do it like that).
