Wanted FOUND! ISO fly outfit for a beginner

My son brought his friend over this past weekend for some BBQ and I gave his friend a casting lesson from our dock. He's "hooked" and wants to get started. He is not at all wealthy.

I told him I'd keep my eyes open for a good deal for him. I'm thinking some thing like a Redington CT 4wt, basic reel, and floating line. Preferably used, preferably as a fishing-ready package.

If you are clearing out your quiver and have something like that, I'd love to hear from you.

Could be. Definitely open to a 5wt for him. I use my 4wt for almost everything, but it is a little under gunned for big water and heavy flies.

Or bigger fish...

I say this from experience. A best friend had his daughter graduate from MayFly Project.. Took her out on a local lake and her first fish was a 24' trout. Her 5wt was almost maxed out. 5wt rule!

I think a 5 or 6 is the ideal “do it all” weight for where we live and the options we have.

Nice of you. Zak! Maybe an inexpensive combo from Sierra or the like if nothing turns up here. Those ECHO Lift rods are a good value.

I was looking at the Echo Lift for him. Also eBay. Any thoughts on the Lift appreciated!
