What's Catching You Fish?

They liked the black daddy

Something about the silly BHGRHE the natives can't resist.

Other stuff worked two.

"If it's what you think you want it just buy it" she said. I'll enjoy fishing this rod, a lot.

I feel jealousy in my heart. Nice fish!!
That wasn't the intention, I was celebrating the impending onset of summer and 32 years of fishing for kings in this spot!
If it makes you feel better, I only got one to hand (and released it) on today's incoming tide. Last session until Friday, then back to the meat aisle!

That black daddy sure looks like a cricket!
I saw that too. Used it as a top dropper fly today. It was about 5' above my anchor fly so at times on a short cast it would be bouncing around above the surface, and fish would leap out to get it. Had a diving caddis 20" above the anchor and it pulled a lot of fish as well.

My first dry fly fish of the year. Better late than never.

This was so fun. I stalked this fish (via float tube), changed flies to what I suspected might work based on observations of surrounding forage and fish activity, put it over her lair and managed to pull her in despite her valiant efforts to dislodge the hook in the weeds.

This may actually be my first fish ever on a dry damsel, too. Not that I haven’t tried; just have never been able to get it to work.

Fishing was slow. I took a shore break/leak and saw damsel nymphs I had dislodged from the submerged vegetation. I switched to a bead head Gartside Sparrow and things picked up. I think I found a diner where damsels and dragons were on the menu.

The bass were MIA today some broke out the light rod and caught a bunch of PS on small poppers. I need to visit one of my BG lakes soon.

Tie once, fish all day. Awesome, even landed a triple. The white daddy got a bit more attention from the little ones than I care for but half the time they fell off on their own. As an indicator however super duper! The diving caddis took more fish than the other two combined.

I just find mountain trout to be so damn pretty.

Hit the deep volcano lake yesterday, cruised the shoreline stopping at faves, a tug here and there, couple to the boat, seemed a slow day in the cards, after a coupla hours decided to give it one last go on a bottom change where I've done well before.
Picked up the rod strung with two black and whites and proceeded to get either a hook up or missed take on most casts in the light chop. Fish were active in the column, taking both the bottom fly and top fly.
Likely a dozen or so to the boat, biggest a bulldog of a Brown that spit the hook just as I eased the net under him.
I really like the set-up I've been using sub-surface, running 10' of 3x flouro to a micro oval tippet ring, than 6' of either 3x or 4x to the bottom fly, tie the top fly with an 18" tag to the tippet ring...rarely any tangles, easy to change flies, excellent presentation in the water. Loop knot to the bottom fly for action, top fly with an improved clinch to keep it more horizontal. Use it on all fly combo's.

Naked or bobbered?

After a couple fish I hung the jiggy craw I posted last night up on an alder limb. Actually hung 3 flies on it.....argggg. Same with the muddled royal:( and another muddled thing on a limb a bit further along. Just missing by that much today. This fished well.....

..well, it was popular with the small ones. They would come up with a mouthful, hillarious.

and I fished a hears ear, similar to @Little Fork

but my replacement jiggy craw was the best for better fish, and the more destroyed it got the better it worked. Strange how that works sometimes.
