OK did some measuring this morning to come up with my final plan.
One of the reasons for this whole thing is that I actually have to remove the whole seat assembly to fit my tuna tote on board when I go tuna fishing. So would just sit on that. It works OK, but I definitely miss having a real seat on the long rides.
Raising the seat 6" will indeed clear the tote, but making the base taller than the tote legs would obstruct it there. By leaving the same round base as it is now, it sits between to of the three legs on one side of the tote.

So that leaves me with needing to go back to the plan of splicing the current tube. I will report back once I complete the task.
