PNW Fly Fishing Semi-Official Swap, Shop, Fish & Eat - May 17, 2025

I’m unfortunately downgrading to a maybe for this. Just scheduled a 3rd meniscus surgery for the 12th so I’ll only be 5 days out. All things considered it’s a mellow surgery, but I’ll just need to make sure I can drive. Really hoping to meet a lot of you in person.

If I can move a few more items before the swap so my passenger seat can be open, you can use that.

I'm basically going to be my own fly fishing / dirtbag tackle shop at this thing.

I've done what are basically a few big estate sale type buys where buying EVERYTHING was too good a deal not to. So I'm re-arranging all my things I plan to keep for myself, which to sell off, and which I want to swap with what I have and just sell my old things.

I'll have spey rods in several sizes, reels, all sizes of fly rods, some lines, accessories and such, dirtbag rods, reels and tackles from local bluegill pond stuff to offshore big game stuff and everything inbetween. Probably some apparel items, boat accessories, and plenty more things I'm sure nobody will want. :D

UPDATE:

Not so much an update, but a reminder that this is just a bit over a month away. Start getting your gear to bring, post it up anywhere you are active online to get more people comin, and start working up your appetite!

FEASTING

@Jerry Daschofsky is going to be doing what he's famous for: Doing some impressive feasts for us to enjoy! Meal tickets will go for sale here in the coming days. YOU MUST PRE-PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS! There will be zero allowed walk-ups or same day meal sales. No ticket, no meal. Simple as.

CAMPING

There are two spots left in our private camp: One tent, one RV. I admittedly have zero idea what to expect for the sites, but I basically expect a grassy area and a big gravel area. Purchase a camping spot by following the link on page 1 of this thread.

SWAPPING

Get some gear together to swap!

Are we on our own for Friday night dinner? Will there be tickets for one Saturday night dinner and two breakfasts (Saturday and Sunday), or Sunday breakfast only?

Friday is free for all. Every man for himself! Or we can coordinate amongst ourselves and come up with a potluck or something. Whaver you're into.

Meals are Breakfast, Saturday morning, and Dinner, Saturday evening-ish.

Will there be a central campfire in the group spot? Maybe Friday night we can have a campfire cookout with hot dogs, hobo packets, ash roasted potatos, smores and such. And beer, lots of beer. I could bring a big Costo roll of aluminmum foil for the hobo packets.

Edit: what's the plan for firewood?

Sounds like a grand plan.

I just have one request: When alcohol is involved, please keep it under control. I am not a drinker, and there's few things I enjoy less than being around belligerent drunks. I've been to enough fly fishing industry parties to have had enough of that for one lifetime. So please, enjoy some beers, have fun, and nobody get stupid.

I know it makes me a party pooper, but it's either that or I camp elsewhere for the evening.

I'm friendly when drunk (but not TOO friendy). A lot of beers for me is 3-5. I agree, knife fights are right out.

I am hoping that we can keep discussion of current political events to bare minimum or avoid them altogether in person, just as we do on the website. I will do my best to do so. I am sure that we have lots of common ground and areas of agreement. I do not want to spend two evenings debating politics.

😁

Inviting these guys...

I was thinking of bringing my 9 year old boy. It would probably be a lot more fun for him if there is another kid or two around. I think maybe @J Watrous mentioned bringing a kid? Anyone else got plans along these lines? (Bringing a kid makes this more feasible for me)

I’ll be camping Friday-Sunday in the group spot. I may be bringing my 9yo as he’s the one who fishes, but he’s kind of a still-water hater. Smaller chance I’ll also be bringing my older kid (13).

Their availability depends on their sports schedules. They’re very into soccer right now.

Edit: 9yo saw me writing this and required me to clarify. He doesn’t hate stillwater, it’s that if he’s β€œgonna sit for eight or ten hours trying to catch something, it’s gonna be six on a plane, two in a car, and a flats skiff for tarpon”.
