12ga pump shopping

I'm really leaning toward a used BPS.
They’re hard to beat, make sure it has interchangeable chokes and it’s very versatile. Never a glitch with either one, the 16 is a great grouse gun. I bought a short barrel for the 12 for turkey…

@Evan B , both Invector and Invector + chokes can be had if one is missing on a used gun.

Frankly, there’s s lotta good pumps and autos out there. Im a sucker for fine sporting equipment, and I love my SBE II. But whether it costs $200 or $30000, if it doesn’t fit, you won’t shoot it for shit. Get one that fits.

Benelli Nova, Mossberg, Rem, 870 Wingmaster (over Express). Consider a budget minded auto like a Franchi, Winchester sx4 or Benelli Montefeltro (priciest). Also, nothing wrong with used.

I had a Remington Wingmaster 870 and a Browning AR Gold, semi auto. I sold both and kind of regret it, but know they are both easily replaceable.. My friend Cliff has one of them, so I may buy it back from him.

I enjoy trap and skeet shooting and have gone bird hunting once, one day upland, and early morning duck hunting from an island on the Columbia! Good times, I would do both again.. even though it would take away from my fishing time!

I would like to get a Benelli eventually, but I would start with the Wingmaster. For me, they just fit me so it was easy to shoot and very economical!

@Guy Gregory brings up a very valid point. Shotgun fit is important. The right drop at heel and length of pull is critical to a good cheek weld. Nothing beats being able to shoulder a gun to see if it fits and buying online is a crap shoot. One can always check one out at a Cabelas…

Well I went ahead and got me a used BPS on the way. I shouldered about 15 guns yesterday and the Brownings and that Ithica were by far the best fits for me. I actually really liked the feel of Benelli Nova 3, and even the Stoeger, which are both on the cheaper end. But decided to treat myself to something a bit more special for not much more money. I wouldn't hesitate to buy either of those though, and almost did.

I do expect to add a 20g to the lineup as well at some point here this summer. I miss having my gun collection, and tired of not joining my buddies once the fall salmon season wraps up.

I have an old Ithaca 20ga (bought in 1977) with modified choke. It can’t be threaded for interchangeable chokes as the barrel is too thin. So you might check on that before you buy one. Ithaca is still in business and you can buy new barrels with changeable chokes.
