Thank for your prayers and wishes all. Emmer seems back to herself today. Vet said we can expect good days and bad.Praying for the best for Emma. First time in 25 years no doggy in our home.
In my world any day with them is a good day. Even the tough ones.Thank for your prayers and wishes all. Emmer seems back to herself today. Vet said we can expect good days and bad.

She was shivering in the truck so I covered her with my sweater and coat and cranked up the heat for the drive home.
Today sheβs no worse for wearβ¦chasing bunnies as usual
β¦..sure opened my eyes tho. Iβm guessing a dog can get hypothermia like usβ¦.anything you floaters or duck hunters do to protect you pups? Aside from not being a knucklehead?
thought I broke the trust with the pup yesterdayβ¦..was all stoked to hit the river before it blew out and didnβt think much about the Winter Storm Warning since temps were forecast to be sufficiently above freezing.
Things were going greatβ¦did our usual feeder stream or side channel crossing and she was having a good time chasing geese and sniffing out some creekside cuisineView attachment 143140
then it started drizzlingβ¦no biggieβ¦itβs drizzled before. Then it rained a little harderβ¦still not a problemβ¦been here before, too.
Long story (kinda) short, the weather see-sawed between decent and not before not won out.
4 or so hours into it, I finally started catching a clueβ¦the river was coming up and the pup was soaked, curled up like a husky in a Jack London story.
The water crossing going out was concerning for both of us and I could see it in her eyes.

For dogs with a double coat like Malamutes, it is more the wet that affects them, matting down their coat, displacing the trapped air that helps keep them warm. Dry, they can withstand the cold awfully well. Thanks guys.
Honestly, prior to yesterday I WAS thinking she was somehow genetically immune since she was born into a feral existence, is a husky/malamute-ish dog, and prefers the cold.
Iβll have to look into the neoprenes.
β¦or maybe something like this
