Howdy - intro

I seem to be spending more time on these forums these days instead of just glancing at the classifieds, so I thought I'd actually get around to doing an intro.

My name is Justin Bailie and I grew up here on the north Oregon coast and now live in Nehalem, OR. Been fly fishing for 40+ years, mostly trout and steelhead. I'm a full time, print and documentary photographer with a focus on fly fishing, fine art & fish conservation and now co-own a small shop here in Nehalem. Our shop Wild Coast Goods, sells mostly local art, including my photography and wood work and we now have a small corner dedicated as a fly shop, carrying mostly flies and gear for searuns and steelhead on the swing. No rods, reels or waders as of now, but maybe someday down the line we might expand a little into that realm.

Welcome! Sounds like a shop I'd enjoy. Best wishes . . .

I’ve been in there on vacation! I bought a hat for my brother. He wears it.

Welcome! I hope you share some of your flyfishing and nature photos here!

Welcome Justin from Steve in Seattle! What kind of wood work do you do? I carve fish, chainsaw bears ect….used to be a commercial carpenter many moons ago! Wood is the easiest medium to shape….and if it doesn’t turn out, it’ll keep me warm in the winter!

Welcome. I love that area and all its beaches and rivers. I will have to stop by next time I'm down there. I'll definitely get a couple flies. Mine seem to have only a so so attraction to the steelhead in those rivers : ).

Welcome - I need to stop by and pick up some tips on where to catch some SRC in the Salt in Oregon. I am sure you have some great SRC flies that would work as well. I will stop by and check out the Fly Shop next time I am in the area :).

I shaped a lot of wood during the course of my lifetime. Those were the warmest Montana winters I can remember!

Hey Steve. I make frames for my own photo work and then sometimes, make serving / cutting boards and other small, hand carved vases and such. And everything I make is out of reclaimed, repurposed or foraged wood.I really dig finding cool, old growth stuff and making something beautiful out of it.
