Lake etiquette very poor today

All,

Please don’t be this guy at Pass Lake today.

I have been waiting for a weather window and looking forward to sneaking out to Pass. I get on the water about 7:45am and start hooking/ landing fish. (They were very close to the surface by the way.) Anyway, I am over by the point( on the Highway side) and I see I guy show up with an inflatable raft. He works his way down the shoreline on the Highway side, so I go into the bay and position myself so that I can cast both away and towards shore. The guy keeps getting closer and about 30 feet away behind me when I say to him. “ I am going to hit you with my back cast.” He says to me, “ I couldn’t see you with my hood up.”……like really dude, pay attention. He then proceeds over to the corner of the bay to work the shore about 25 yards from me…..again, like WTF dude…? It was definitely worthy of a verbal assault. Not to mention the guy had 4 rods strung up and catching anything to boot…..you have all seen the type.

We have all this lake to ourselves and he has to come within 30 feet of me…..not cool dude.

It was the river equivalent of “ low holing”.

I felt like posting his truck and license plate, but won’t this time.

Honestly, some folks have not got any clue…..

Ida joined you if I still lived there, you and I had some big outings there once upon a time.

But yeah don't get me started about people in public. Can think of a certain chapter of a certain book he hasn't read - talks about lowholing at Pass and everything 😉

Post a pic or two if you took some!

I'll say that I saw that guy getting off the expressway and loading up his raft on my way back home (and I assume you on the lake on the way out and back), he didn't look like he was having a good day.

So what’d you say? I’ve been known to go with “kinda close, don’t you think? Plenty of open water” or, “can you not fish the water I’m already fishing?”

Those are great statements......I would go in this order:

1. Kinda close, don't you think..?
2. Can you not fish the water I'm already fishing...?
3. Plenty of open water

Hopefully, that works.

Heck, I remember once fishing Pass when I guy in a float tube went in-between myself and the shore.......I was like....Are you frickin' kidding me........

While I was there, he went about 3/4 the way around and from what I could see, he didn't touch a fish......despite the four rods rigged...LOL.

Had he asked for some tips( I am not the expert here, but could have probably suggested some things) I would have totally been in a different mind set. Once upon a time, I didn't know as much and someone from this forum was kind enough to help and give me flies.

I was out there today with an inflatable raft, green two person, with my wife in the front, and have a truck but didn’t get on the water until around 12:30-12:45. I read the first line and started feeling bad for some reason like I ruined someone’s day but then I kept reading and remembered I didn’t talk to anyone except a nice guy in a small pram when I first launched. There were two other guys when I was there. Both in pontoons one on the highway side and another deep in the back. I wanted to practice rowing so we rowed around the entire lake while my wife just trolled and caught a few. Sorry your outing got scrooged!

Are you saying his raft blew off his rig driving on the expressway? And he pulled over to load it back up?

No, drove by a guy with a two person raft at the offramp of 5 and 20, drove back by pass lake on the way home and saw the same raft. Although given @jeradjames comment that may have been him as I hit the highway around 11something.

That could have been me! It was my first time on this raft and I ended up needing to readjust the oar placement at the beginning with my wrench so maybe you saw that? Other than that, not sure what else I would have been doing to indicate having a bad day.

Could also just be wrong! Two man raft slightly deflated on the bed of a truck?

Maybe I'm just projecting at me putting my kayak/raft in the bed of my truck

Yep! Well congrats on the first trip out! Sorry to indicate you had a bad day when clearly you didn't. Thats what I get for making judgements driving by too fast on 20
