Don’t forget “The Golden At-Bat”. 😂

Covered by "each teams best hitter hits every AB"

What an F'ing stupid rule - better never pass, course this is the group that instituted the Little League rule for extra innings, expanded interleague play so leagues/divisions no longer mean anything (this past September you had AL teams in playoff/division title contention playing NL teams in playoff contention in the final week of the season - absolute disgrace!!!!!)

Go Royals

I agree. When I first heard about it, I was thinking that is such a stupid idea it had to be the Mariners that proposed it, not the idiot Rob Manfred.

Dodgers are down in the 9th inning 4-3. Are they saying someone like Ohtani could come to bat as part of the original lineup. Hit a home run and then turnaround and bat again as the golden rule hitter?

Yep, that is basically it.
Dumbest rule change proposal I think I’ve heard. I was thinking it was April 1st when I first heard it. 😉

Essentially yes, though more likely scenario is the Dodgers are behind, 2 outs and a poor hitter is scheduled up next, Ohtani comes in as Golden at Bat, not sure what happens if his regular turn comes up and he is on base, I guess then you have pinch hit, or jut put in a runner and let him hit again.

Bases are loaded, poor hitter, just put Ohtani in, hey, even if he is on base, make hime the Golden at bat and put a runner in his place - it is all blasphemy, but given how we have to take the best game out there and make it more exciting for the mucks with an attention span of a flea, it'll probably happen

No cheers, but go Royals

MLB is a clown show.
But hey...
Next year is the 30th anniversary of the fabled 1995 Mariners season.

🤣

Yeah, it's been a loooong rebuilding year

The "Golden At Bat" is the greatest brain fart I have ever heard of in a lifetime of watching sports on TV. An outright gimmick that required an idiot to even propose. The Designated Hitter is a gimmick that I always hated also. Some pitchers intentionally hit batters and I would like to see them come to bat for their dose of karma. Plus if you are going to be a baseball player you should be able to play the whole game, not just half of it. And the runner on 2nd base at the start of extra innings is another brain fart. I saw a tie game this summer where the pitcher threw one pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning and lost the game. That shouldn't be possible unless the batter hits a home run.

I don't understand why any team would want to bastardize the game with something like the GAB, it tears at the very fabric of the game. Attendance is already at near an all time high with over 71 million people attending games in 2024. The Golden At Bat, Sadie Hawkins Day races or milking contest are all things that might have traction in D League baseball but are an affront to real baseball fans. We know phony when we see it and the GAB is as phony as it gets.

Imagine football where a second chance is allowed for every missed field goal. 😦

The interpretation of viewership trends also needs to consider population trends. The U.S. population in 1980 was about 225 million, so the World Series used to attract about 20% of the population. With a current population of about 330 million, World Series viewership is down to about 3% to 4% of the population.
