A glimmer of reason in the automotive world

I've considered a Sienna as my next fishing rig once my current one dies. I wish they offered a bare bones version with only two seats and a totally flat floor, but that isn't going to ever happen. I've posted this before.

Do you think you could get an optional moss package?

Vehicle patina is a subject I don't take lightly.
I'll just order a green colored one. Problem solved! 🤣

The 90's Mazda MPV vans fit that niche perfectly in the 4wd version. I see them from time to time but not very often. If you google pictures of them they look pretty lame but in person they are surprisingly sleek when people put a mild lift and all terrain tires on them. I've seen a few at Steven's pass and they always get a second look.

I once bought a 1989 Dodge Grand Caravan, sort of a large mini-van. Bought it for soccer mom and dad duties, but it was pretty good in the snow, as we drove it for skiing at Mt Baker. That rig was great as we hauled tons of teenagers everywhere for everything. It served us well for family vacations to most of the western national parks. Mom and pop, two teens, and a golden retriever along with a ton of camping gear (and some fishing gear, of course). Unfortunately it came with a Mitsubishi engine and Chrysler transmission that were only "sorta' good," meaning they had limited useful lifespans. I still managed to get 176k miles out of it and traded it for a 2000 Subaru Outback. All things considered, I would absolutely love to have that Grand Caravan with a Subaru engine and drive train. Well the 2.5 L engine would probably need to be upsized to 3.0 or 3.5 L, but you get the idea. That would make for a helluva' fishing rig.

That looks cool, but they lifted it 3” then just put the stock tires and wheels back on. I would want to go a little bigger and more aggressive with the tires once it’s lifted.

Just wait till your 54..

How for the 64 yo to chime in and tell me how good I have it..
Rob - 64 is a long ways back in my mirror. I'm 75 - life is GREAT. I fish when I feel like it, my wife and I travel, we have a couple grandkids we get to spend the winter with. I BEAT cancer. Did I mention life is GREAT? It is. Heated seats and steering wheel are awesome (as is adaptive cruise control).

I can report that it won't be better when you reach 74. I turned 76 last month, and it usually takes the second mug of coffee for all my key joints to limber up. Not gonna' complain cuz so many have it worse, much worse.
77 a couple months ago ,can't remember 54 . 😂 The only thing that I really need to get going in the morning is my fused ankle ,and it doesn't take much , a bit of walking ,and I'm good . I think I feel better now as far as how the body feels than I did in my working days. 44 years in the steel industry I handled a lot of steel as a machine operator, before being a manager . I am actually pretty lucky not to have back, shoulder or any other problems related to a lot of heavy work over my lifetime . The ankle is related to a motorcycle accident , nothing do with my work , maybe other than spending those 44 years on concrete a good part of the time. No complaints here .

Do you have one of these Brute? If I remember right you’ve got some pretty badass Jeeps too!
I have one on order…decided I need to think about giving up the rooftop tent and start to sleep inside the vehicle…

the biggest continuing hole in the US lineup is a mid size van, i.e. Sienna, Odyssey, etc with Subaru ground clearance and either equally distributed AWD or 4x4 option...add easily removable rear seats, a utilitarian 'hose-out' interior, and an extended roof option, and it would sell like happy hour beer. The most reliable vehicle we've ever owned was an 08' Sienna that I flogged mercilessly for a decade without a single repair, just routine maintenance.
Meanwhile, there is a cadre of Sienna owners who have gone the Journey Offroad 3" lift route, see them frequently in the Bend area.
