On an EJack no less!

Got home from MX and have one day on the split and two days freeheelin' inbounds. Probably up tomorrow morning and then it's a wash until Sunday.

Could get thin up there

Yeah, I was hoping to take the kid up on Sat, but Fri night/Sat are looking like rain. And a lot of it.

I was up there too. Surprisingly great day considering how warm it was and how little snow. And the views were indeed terrific!

Never say never. Can't believe I'm posting here. Skied from 5 to about 35, even taught at points. Wife and sons never showed interest so I just cross countried in my triathlon/cycling off-season. Well my son and dol did a snowboard lesson two days ago and liked it so they signed the grandkids up too. Got a call this morning to discuss my getting involved.
Well...... babysitting on the slopes and in the lodge, papa's on board. Think that's what I'm here for. Had to get some gear. I'll do both ski and snowboard rentals for a while till I get a feel for things again.
Will certainly cut into my fishing time, but really never thought I'd do this again.
God willing my back holds out, and maybe I'll be skiing the powder in the trees at Bluewood again. Just never know what the future has in store.

Nice!
Your back may feel actually better due the core workout
Congratulations
I meet guys on the hill all the time that impress me on their longevity
Cheers

Bluewood is awesome, especially the tree skiing that you mentioned. I might head there tomorrow.

One of the most fun days of skiing that I've had was at Bluewood in two years ago. My parents were visiting on their way from winter in AZ back home to Minnesota, and I took advantage of the $0 "Super Senior" lift ticket rate for my then 71-year old dad to get him out on the mountain. He hadn't been on skis for 10+ years and had only ever skied the local hills in MN, so even Bluewood was huge for him. Add to that 16-20" of new powder that morning and it was a great experience... they only had a couple runs groomed so he stuck to those, and I met him back at the lift after each run. Hopefully we can repeat that when they visit this spring!

Well I wouldn't say snow shreading, but by lunch I could do the run with the magic carpet. Butt to hill no problem but couldn't get the toe side turn facing uphill, up or down, to work, so l kinda went back and forth as a leaf would. I could also go straight down just swishing the board left and right to burn off speed like a slalom, but that was exhausting. Just no carving gs type turns.
We had lots of fun. Of course the littlest one took right to it.
Resisted all urges to trade the snowboard for skis, figured I'd just learn to do it. My quads hurt. Got to get in shape, maybe back on the bike.

Our son wanted a snowboard for Christmas when he was about 10. I suggested we try renting first so we went to Spout Springs Ski Area in the Blues. He fell forward, backwards, and every direction. By lunch, he was whupped. One of his buddies from school was there skiing and told our son that skiing is much cooler. He never looked back. I’ve thought of trying it, but at my age, it’s not going to happen. Looking for a new set of skis though.

I’ve always said that snowboarding is harder to learn, but easier to master.

The oldest has hinted all along he'd rather try skis. Of course each kid wants to do something different! Had to happen, we did run into his school buddy, on skis. By the end of the day though he was enjoying it.

The kids are all doing snowboard lessons again Sunday. I may just grab a pair of skis. That I've got mastered, and feel far less likely to hurt myself.

I used to do a good bit of nordic skiing, but have only gotten out for 1-2 days of classic for the past few years. A friend and I have resolved to make it a weekly event this year, and got out for our first trip of the season today. I was expecting the quintessential PNW ski in the rain experience, but it was surprisingly pleasant. We skied the Cabin Creek and Palouse to Cascade groomed trails and got in about 19-20k total.
My old-but-still-fast Rossi skate skis did fine, but the boots had turned brittle with age and they self destructed. You can see the missing left cuff. Shopping ensued.

Looks like time for new gear. Been there, done that.
I was skiing the gear I had before I got sober one day at Bluewood, about 10 years later, and one of my plastic boots just exploded! That's why I'm not skiing the K2's and boots I got now and just renting, don't trust them.
I think I'm shopping for an all mountain ski, something quick and soft at moderate speed like my old Olin Mark VI Comps. Some tail rocker. But maybe with a bit more edge for groomed runs and long runouts without that swishy feel. Not looking for a real mogul or powder ski at this point.
