Some unintentional John Gierach humor

Anyone spot the gaffe on the cover art for the audio book version of John Gierach's Fool's Paradise. Cover art obviously designed by someone who knew nothing about fly fishing...I think the same thing happened on the hard copy cover of one of John's books a long time ago.

I see a rooster tail and a blue fox vibrax spinner, LOL.

On the subject of AI... There's a TV commercial out now, I think it's for some eye medicine, that shows a woman driving around town in an older orange "Mustang" convertible. It caught my eye because I used to have a 65 Mustang and can spot all the little details that separate a 65 from a 66, a 67 vs a 68 etc...

This car was clearly AI generated because it's missing major details, like the side scoop contour on the doors, they are just flat, the tailights are single squares instead of 3 rectangular panels, etc... The instrument cluster appears to be a 5 dial from a 66 so I know they're trying to show a first gen Mustang, but man is it weird and creepy.

And isn't it missing the gas cap?

I had a 1965 red Mustang convertible so I'll look for the AD. I had to sell the car because a convertible was not the best vehicle to drive around in the snow and ice of La Grande during the winter. The roof would freeze and as it thawed out it rained on us inside the car.

Thanks for posting the link to the commercial. I’ve been waiting to catch it again on tv to spot more details.

But yeah no gas cap, grill is wrong, tail light lenses wrong, no side scallops and no side emblems. Oh and the side mirrors are wrong

But the gauges in the dash look correct as do the pedals. It also has GT wheels. What I don’t understand is WHY they would do this. Granted I don’t know much about the tech used these days to make tv commercials. Did they have the actor drive around in a different car altogether, film it, and then use AI to modify it to a mustang into the video? Could they not find a real 66 mustang to use for the shoot? I’m just so confused.

At least they removed the original reverse lights since they are built into the existing square lights the changed.

I'm not sure why they just didn't use a stock convertible. Although, we're spreading their commercial around and talking about it, so maybe they weren't so dumb after all. Any publicity is good publicity, right? 😉

They're marketing eye medication, not vintage Mustangs. They don't need Stanley Kubrick level authenticity.

They, however, did indeed miss the boat with the audio book cover...he was once asked about whether he ever fished with gear or bait; he didn't run down other fishing techniques but indicated that he hadn't done so since childhood. He also said he had little interest in saltwater flyfishing...especially not tropical salt water, "probably because of the heat".

Sorta reminds me of when Vertical Scope took over the WFF website and promptly featured a spinning rod on the main webpage.
