NFR Let's talk about generators

Non-fishing related
Our neighbors have a whole house Generic unit
They are half way down tthe lake from us. I hear it inside my well insulated home. When my neighbor mows his lawn with his diesel garden tractor 50 feet away, I do not hear it. There atta be a law about noise...
generators, even in a noise insulation enclosure, can make an unholy racket unless exhausted through a silencer kit, mandated in almost all metro's..

Retroactive?

Kinda like those guys with RVs or trailers blasting generators 24-7, am I right @Bhudda! :ROFLMAO:
one late September wife and I were the only ones in an idyllic campground alongside the Grey's River in the Wyoming Range, hadn't seen anyone in a week, fishing had been light's out on dries ....late afternoon two big diesel 4x4's show up dragging lifted trailers, a hundred yards of bank unimproved sites to choose from and they set up 20 yards from us, turn on the country music boom box, and that evening started up generators that ran all night long. In the morning we packed up our tent and left.

I have a Generac to power our house in Mercer Island...from most spots inside my own house, I can barely hear it...

I suffer from severe sleep apnea, and while camping I needed to charge my RV batteries during the daytime hours. Due to the American Disabilities Act, I could run my generator at night to power my CPAP(continuous positive airway pressure) machine, but why needlessly disrupt others.
I built an enclosure to reduce the noise of running my generator at campgrounds. There are two short videos. The first is without the noise reduction enclosure, and the second with the enclosure. Both video's compare running at "no load" and then adding 1500 watts of load. Notice that you can hear the birds over the sound of the enclosed generator.

Due to updated technology, I now power my CPAP with a lithium battery that will power the machine for 3+ nights of sleep. I do occasionally still run my enclosed generator during non-quiet hours to recharge the RV batteries.

you, sir, are a class act, as courtesy towards others is one of the higher traits one can demonstrate.

I will attest to the efficiency of Mel's baffled enclosure. From closely adjacent sites his Honda is almost imperceptible.

Can you describe how you build the quiet box?

This is a timely thread I've been considering the same thing. The problem with my property is the well pump has its own electrical service that I share with my neighbor, so if I want power in the house AND water I'd need 2 generators 😞. Not sure there is any other solution for that.
ffb, my brother has the same situation, they worked it out. I'll ask him what they did and let you know.

Same with my 32 kWh...but my neighbors cheap noisy unit makes that moot. Probably going to soundproof the fence where he sets his up.

Soundproof a fence? Interesting? I would not want to be anywhere near that fence when it gets windy.
