They all will hurt some, but now that Wilson is gone, some other trades are likely to say the least. The team is going to change, that's for sure.
Lockett is by far my favorite player, and has been since his rookie year. I haven't been a Wilson fan since he got his first contract and his entire persona changed along with his play style. Lockett has never let me down.
May be a few Rick Mirer type years.
I get that....sucked when Denver traded away Von Miller last year....sucked even worse when Demaryius Thomas died. 2 of my favorites from that generation of our team...
I liked him at K State, was happy he joined the team, but things change and he's 29, probably at peak value now vs. 2 years from now.

Wilson wasn't going to stay after 2 more years, and so take what you can get and move on.

20+ years of losing is my estimate. Pete Carroll will be gone soon. The wilderness years started last season.
As far as compensation goes, I think it's a fine enough haul. Can't imagine squeaking much more compensation out of a deal.
That said, don't like the deal overall. I'm just a big believer that in the modern NFL you don't trade away franchise QBs, period. And like him or not, RW is a franchise qb. With him behind center the Hawks always stood a chance. Each season, each game. All the guy has ever done everywhere he's played is win. He's been flawless off the field. And if you think an annoying wife and social media presence makes him a diva then I don't think you're paying too close attention to players in this league.
All the talent on the current roster and all the compensation here doesn't amount to a hill of beans without a quality QB, and now the Hawks don't have one. I mean sure, who wouldnt want a Josh Allan type on this roster? Does Schneider just head down to the Josh Allan outlet store and pick one up? Do people even remember life before RW?
Barring some other trade in some grand plan, everything moving forward hinges on striking gold in the draft. Sure, hit on a young QB and have a window to win while he's on a rookie deal definitely works. But that requires actually hitting on a QB. This is not easy. Not even remotely easy. Miss on a QB and suddenly all the current talent and compensation is completley meaningless. Been quite a while since Pete and John have struck gold in the draft remember.
When you find a QB you keep him. Thats my take. Is RW the best qb in the league? Nope. Is getting a bit older? Yup. Still, he's been injured ONE time in his whole career, and gave the Hawks a chance every single season. Hes proven himself as a qb capable of carrying a team time and time again. Im gonna miss that. I'm gonna miss being in the playoffs more often than not. That sure wasn't the case before RW.
Guess we'll see what happens moving forward. I'm guessing John and Pete have a bigger plan in action here. Either they have fallen in love with someone in the draft, or they have more trades coming. Lots of flexibility either way now I suppose.

I'm also hoping Pete and John are pushed out the door, too. I haven't been a fan of Peteball since Marshawn left. Just blow it up and enjoy a few years of Minshew Mania if we can get him

I get this take, too. But he's going to look at Aaron Rodger's new deal and get salty until he's paid that. He isn't even worth his current contract. So do you wait it out to see what happens there? Or do you get something for him while you still can? For me, it's emphatically the latter.
That's my feeling....if you don't have one, you go get one. Also, if you don't have one, you're not going anywhere fast unless you like hanging out in the middle of the pack.
Hell, I'd be thrilled if we can come anywhere close to what we did with Peyton and his brittle neck.
I get this, but I disagree. It takes a QB to win. It takes money to keep a quality QB. I totally disagree that he isn't worth his current contract. His personal and team stats more than backs up his pay. Absolutely average QBs are easily getting in the 25-30 mil range in today's game.
Do you really think RW isn't worth an extra few mill over most of the guys below him on this list? It's just the price of doing business in the NFL.
If they hit on someone in the draft this could work out huge. But that's sure a big if as far as I'm concerned.
In the meantime they'll have money to pay for other talent I suppose, and could maybe find a Tannehill or that type of QB to make it work. But then again, look at what those types of guys are making and you're nearly right back where you were before, only with a lesser QB. So ultimately the draft is the answer and at this point its hard to have much faith in that.

It is shocking how few people understand this. His value is declining and they were not going to win a SB with him in the next 2 years. No brainer deal.
Since 2015, has he been that great though? He has efficiency stats because he throws it away so often... But I just don't see it. I feel like he's been on a steep decline and shows just enough of the classic RW here and there to make us forget how average he otherwise has been. I'd rather rip the bandaid off now, get something for him, and figure out the next era vs doing what the Steelers did with Ben.

guess we'll find out how much of a decline he' in next year with an actual offensive coach and a real offensive line (or at least, not bottom quarter)...not to mention better O weapons (I mean, DK ain't getting 1k yards with what Sutton had throwing to him). I for one, can't wait.

Oh I don't doubt it'll be better, and I would have been ok with seeing him with a coach that isn't Pete Carroll.

I see nothing but consistency there. Again, he's not the best QB in the game. But I'd say about 80 percent of the league would be MORE than happy for this kind of production year in and year out from their QB.
Only time will tell here no doubt. And I hope it works out. I'm just not hopeful.
