Bozeman launches new high end apparel company

Admittingly, it has been a while since I've been out for a night on the town.

I didn't even recognize the R bar, the Legion (which was once a dive bar) now has granite bar tops, and we ate at a place called Open Range where you were charged $6 for "bread service" and horseradish for your $60 cut of meat was extra.

Understanding fashion, I knew the evening would require a dressier, mountain casual.

Upon leaving dinner I put on my scarf, my tailored wool pea coat that is a nice blend of classic structure but with modern twists, and finished it off with a pair of black leather driving gloves. My friend said it looked like I was heading out to the opera. Perfect.

My wife was also looking hawt and it was obvious we were turning heads.

At its core, this is Bozeman on a Saturday night.

Haha, I still have both but the Seal Dri 100's have a pretty good rip in them.:)
I thought I had really stepped up from my hippers with baling twine that held them up after the rubber straps had rotted.
My buddy Eric, used a bungee cord for a waiting belt and duct tape to fix his seal dris.

Core to me is hiking a mile or two either on the ranch or the Madison in 90 degree temps wearing seal dri waders and shitty Danner boots. If you know nothing but breathable waders, you don't have a clue.
Another seal dri recollection for the album.
Once bought a brand new pair of the heavier ones from crusty Sig Barnes in West. Waded across the Yellowstone at Buffalo Ford with my totally illegal off leash black lab, Beth (Not a Parky alive going to wade across to write THAT ticket :devilish:). Once on the east bank almost immediately atomized a foot-long gash on sage brush. Shazbot
Stumbling along the only proper safe route coming back across with the full force of the Yelly ballooning into one of my legs and Beth unhelpfuly splashing alongside wondered why it was taking so long was maybe ..... hardcore.

Nice idea but it would have been nice to see it more value oriented.
The market already has $700 + zipper front waders from companies that have been around a long time.

I think I might have stumbled on the answer to it all...The BroBible.

Admit it - deep down, in your heart of hearts, you really just want to live in a McMansion in Bellevue, drive Audi SUV, and base all your Saturday night dinner plans around the top restaurants published in Seattle Magazine.

Your gonna fit right in with all your new Bozeman neighbors….

I feel you have a future as a copy writer for the J Peterman catalog.

My first pair of waders was a pair of Ranger nylon waders then after that neoprene of course.
Wore my dad's seal dries a time or two. They were OK as long as you kept them at least 10 feet from barbed wire.
Back to the future....
I found a pair of Red Ball urethane coated nylon stocking foot chest waders with the inflatable top ring at a IFF fair a few years back. No tags attached but appeared to had never been used. At 18 ounces, they roll up real small, and for $15, they have been great for packing into mountain lakes with a 3.5 lb float tube.

The 4mm neoprene socks and neoprene Sockwa Playa beach volleyball shoes I use to protect the stocking feet weigh almost as much as the waders.

If they ever wear out I have my first pair of waders; Browning stockingfoot PVC coated nylon that weigh about 6 ounces more.

Wow, those bring back memories. Long suppressed ones.

If we only had this back then

Interesting discussion. Made me think about what I'd say if someone asked what, in the realm of fly-fishing, was worth buying the absolute best you could afford and where you could do just as well by buying something mid-range or lower. For some of my hobbies the answer immediately came to mind. Skiing: boots. Kayaking: drysuit/paddle/helmet/pfd. Rafting: the raft and your repair kit. Woodworking: Milwaukee-grade or better. Back when I had the luxury of spending lots of time climbing/mountaineering the answer would have been "everything." It's a bit more of a head-scratcher when it comes to fly fishing these days.

Honestly almost all of the gear at the low-end of mid-range on the market today is so good that the only thing that immediately came to mind wasn't gear, it was "instruction" and "experiences." I like to have nice stuff as much as the next guy, and have a few high-end rods and reels, but I can't honestly say that I've ever found myself in a situation where the quality of the gear I've had has been what was holding me back, but pretty much every time I go out I'm constantly aware of how my lack of skills, knowledge, experience is holding me back in some way.

If someone pressed me I'd say that it was worth paying some money - if necessary - to try out a few rods and buy whichever rod felt the best to them, and that they'd probably never regret paying for high-quality leaders and tippet, or hooks if they were intent on tying their own flies. Function-wise, I honestly can't say that the I've ever really needed the high-end gear I've got, or that I've caught fish that I wouldn't have caught otherwise but for high end-gear. Even with stuff like waders, I pay whatever it takes to get mid-grade-or-higher waders that I can zip down, but dollar for dollar I got the best value by far out of the pair of Hodgman's that I spent six months beating to death in NZ.

Probably the most indefensible gear-purchases I've made in my life have been whatever Patagonia jackets, etc I could find for them on their 50% off sale, but I keep telling myself I'm going to make up the difference on the back-end when my wife sells it to some transplanted California Yoga-Mom in Bozeman on Poshmark....

Thinking about starting a new high end gear/apparel line called Squalor. This is for those who put the Bum in trout bum. Heavy on the duct tape and twine aesthetic, I really want the look to scream "I use the teeth I have left to cut my tippet."

Let people know you're not a poser when you break out the 200$ hefty bag during a rainstorm and punch arm and head holes in it. Show your authenticity and dedication with one of our full line of rods with a busted tip. Just overline that fucker and let her rip!

If you want Squalor (thinking about Skwalar cuz theres a really hush hush hatch that only the cognoscenti know about called Skwala) gear then you just need to send me a few hundred bucks and you'll probably get something back. Or not. The hardcore wouldnt care.

Need investors? I'm in. Been looking for an opportunity like this since I missed out on "Derelict".
