Just one last thing

The room positively screams for a rolltop oak desk/bench!
Yes, I'm leaning that way! I have one I salvaged from my office at Mulligan's Old Place, but mom's been using it for 30 years, and God willing I won't get it back for some time.

I agree with others on rolltop desk. There are lots of them on Craigslist all the time. $75 - $300. Sometimes free, too.

Also think through your lighting setup. It may change....

Hope you have a couple of strong young guys/friends. They are heavy!

I'm not opposed to that. Those bulbs work, but they wash out color somewhat.

Nice. I agree with RCF that free and cheap desks are pretty commonly found online. Those tend to be heavy, I agree with that, too. But not all desks, and not all rolltops, are big giant heavy onerous things. I know because I have one. They're out there.

The main thing that generally changes with a rolltop (I have one) is that it becomes more convenient to have the vise mounted on a heavy movable base rather than an edge clamping system. You just slide the vise back under the rolltop...and hide the whole mess when you roll it down.

Check out this discussion thread, if you have not already done so, about desks and storage:

Might provide some other ideas...

The desk we have is a beast. I put it on the truck in Seattle but had help on this end.
But, yeah, a rolltop of some sorts, chair, maybe a bit of carpet for the dogs bed..........

That looks like a great setup, but looking at that chair makes my back hurt. When we went WFH, I went to the local office furniture liquidators and got a good desk chair that also serves as my tying chair. Some of the best money I've spent.

Congrats Tom! Looks like a great dedicated fishing / tying “man-cave”!

If you keep your material storage separate in the beautiful set of drawers you have, you might be able to get away with a smaller roll top. Mine is only 32 inches wide and I can at least shuffle it short distances by myself. I've seen this same style in 36 inches wide as well. They can usually be had for less than $100. Office chair from FB Marketplace. Nice that you have a dedicated room.

For a fly-tying/fishing-related refuge, wouldn't "man cove" be more appropriate?
