In light of recent fishing-related accidents or close calls where often there is a very fine line between making it to tell a crazy story or not been around to tell it at all, I wonder if we could consider having a forum/sub forum about on the water safety. We all want to make the most of our limited time out there enjoying our favorite activity and we surely want to come back safely. We also make mistakes, get in over our head or end up rescuing somebody that does get in trouble near us and we learn from mistakes and often hard learned experiences of others. This site has lots of great stories from members about safety related experiences that can be of use to newcomers and experienced outdoors people alike, as of now they are dispersed in different parts of PNWFF, having them in one forum/subforum may make it easier to come back to them, ask questions, share tips, etc. I understand the site structure for this great place we all enjoy is decided by @Josh, @Evan B and @Billy, this is just an idea for consideration.

Another site I frequent, I know at least one other member here is also a member there, is NorthWest Kayak Anglers (NWKA) and they have a whole forum called "For Safety's Sake"that is one of their most popular and useful sections. Yes, the advice and stories there are more kayak related, many of us here chase fish wading, paddling, tubing, pontooning, rafting, boating, etc, but there are some commonalities for all to learn and hopefully save lives. One particularly good thread in the in NWKA's Safety forum is called "This is What's Going to Kill You!", excellent piece linked below.

I for one, have quite a few of safety related stories, happy to share at some point! Below a picture of the latest, a few weeks ago where a return to the ramp which typically takes 15 minutes took an hour and a half of a very wet ride on a friend's boat after a crazy strong front came through and went from 10 knots to 35 knots and full white caps in Puget Sound. Have fun, be prepared and stay safe out there!

Great Idea!

@Billy , @Josh ,@Evan B , please help this happen....

There will be lots of ideas from all sorts of people, both professionals and non-professionals.

Here’s just an example of what can happen, and did, recently at the home port. Graham won the lottery that day in the best way possible. PFD on before putting it in gear…always.
Thanks @VMP Glad everything worked out.

Is that red carpeting on the rail of your friends’ boat?
That seems dangerously…smelly and nasty?

@VMP I certainly did not mean to minimize your dicey sojourn back to port. I am glad you made it back safely yet again. I was just noticing something unusual. Does it feel a little like fishing out of the inside of Jeannie's bottle? That would be pretty cool.

No worries! I despise red carpet on boats! That's why my boat still has two small patches of grey carpet on the stern! I just haven't gotten around to remove them yet.
