Boot: Krusty? Sure, I know Krusty. He's what I would describe as Limnologist's Limnologist...
Tallguy: What's a Limnologist anyway?
Boot: I think they help you lose weight, the provenance being from latin Slimnologist
Tallguy: Yeah, Boot, I am pretty sure you're full of shit on that one
Boot: Yeah but you can absolutely picture a world with Slimnologists, no?
Tallguy: the correct term is Bariatrician
Boot: A "reputable" Slimnologist would have their own line of products- oils, shakes, lotions, diets, cleanses, thinning ointments
Tallguy: And a economic model relying on Pyramid sales. I gotta say, I'm Having a hard time picturing Krusty with a Garage full of thinning ointments and cleansing products.
Boot: yeah, I agree, he's probably more in the Limnology camp than the Slimnology one
Tallguy: On the other hand Krusty's smart enough to sit at the top of a Pyramid scheme for sure
Boot: yeah, absolutely agree on that.... probably done his homework on the viabilities of a Fecal Transplant and Chakra-orienting retreat for net high worth individuals
Sign up for one of my exclusive Chakra-orienting retreat/glamour camps and I will provide Fecal Transplant Milkshakes for all qualifying morbidly obese PNWFF forum members at a considerable discount.

But wait...that's not all...I'll even thrown in a free consultation from one of our resident iridologists!

then you submit it to an ornithology journal and you realize the reviewers are among the most nit-picky, inbred, unimaginative dullards that ever lived. Some scientists have spent decades in mud (literal and figurative) doing field work with a limited audience and large vats of time to scaffold whole belief systems around their suffering that they themselves become the mud. The transference is complete, they might turn into insufferable, petty, jealous boors.

(yeah obviously take that with a grain of salt, it's a little fluffed for effect, but anyone who has had good paper(s) rejected for dumb reasons feels a small sting, part of the business, thick skin helps, but then again, ornithologists..... ugh.....)

Charlatans have been around since the beginning of time

There is a point where the venn diagrams of science and industry overlap and bullshit science becomes massive profit. The sacklers and the opiate crisis, the aggressive marketing of gabapentin, the use of decongestants, there's a multitude of other examples, and many of them would have been prevented by fair and honest reviews at the first stages of publication/reporting.

As much as this is obviously fiction, there's a kernal of truth threading through the whole thing that makes it such a great movie. One of the best scenes in a film stacked with start to finish awesomeness:

Ornithology journal reviewers.

I am going into construction management with the hopes of using Marine Biology experience to volunteer part time at groups like Coastal Cutthroat Coalition so that I can support a family. All this time I should have known to stick with marine bio and apply for jobs at Big Otter.

@adamcu280 Is Big Orca still hiring? How does their offer compare to Big Otter?

I know you are all wondering how I, the only actual Otter on the forum, is holding up to the relentless attacks on my kind in this thread. Although we otters are tough and can defend ourselves just fine, we do have feelings, so we can suffer similarly to humans being attacked.

Now, I'm not asking for sympathy, but the numerous references to apparent opportunities to gain copious amounts of cash gives me a thought. I have no interest in luxury products like Lambos or Ferraris, especially since I avoid driving these days, as increasing numbers of drivers are dangerous, rude, and unskilled. Instead, I would be satisfied with perhaps affording a top quality fly rod or two. And maybe a quality house cleaning service, who also supplies some of the "extras" that us selfish males so appreciate. Any funds collected over and above these wishes, I would donate to a service that provides an involuntary and secure treatment facility for those obstinate ornithologists who are tormenting Wading Boot.

How would I obtain a little cashola? Well, as many of you know, the U.S. is internationally known for its popularity for copious numbers of lawsuits of all types, however trivial a matter may seem. Remember that woman (in Florida, maybe?), who sued McDonalds over a spilled cup of java that she claimed was too hot? And she won, thanks to ready assistance from lawyers who possess great legal skill and greed, as well as a lack of ethics. Surely, I could legally claim damages resulting from the numerous horrible assertions against otters in this thread. I could even ask my fellow otters if they might be interested in a class action.

One possible glitch to my idea is that I am not an American citizen, just a neighbour to your north. However, I bet I'm "more American" than anyone else on this forum (except any Indigenous members), since I am a direct descendent of Myles Standish, who came over on the good ship Mayflower, with the first settlers from Europe. Maybe all that wouldn't be an issue. Perhaps my potential suit could be launched here in Canada; we have our share of ambulance chasers here too.

I'm liquidating everything and putting it into Ottercoin...crypto is on the otter bandwagon now, so don't delay.

Oh no…a Canadian Otter…is that like Canadian Bacon?…not the real thing?

Otters are an American Mustelid...made in America, by Americans. You can tell a Canadian otter by its affinity for kokanee, maple syrup, and attendance at hockey games.

Brute, we don't have "Canadian bacon" in Canada. We have 2 kinds of bacon; the usual fatty strips cut from pork bellies that you guys also have:

Our other one is back bacon; lean chunks of pork loin, cured and smoked:

I've never had "Canadian bacon" in the U.S., so I had to look it up. Apparently, it's quite different from back bacon. Here's an article about all this. Warning; it's one of those very long-winded recipe pieces that some women like to write:

By the way, the next time you're in Canada, order eggs benedict at a restaurant, which has back bacon (or Black Forest ham). Don't ask if it has "Canadian bacon", or you'll get a blank stare!

I have been trying to educate folks here about this very matter for several years, but US Big Bacon has them convinced of a Canadian Bacon conspiracy.

Cheers
