When have Sea Otters lived in pass lakeI will revisit my example of Pass Lake. If Sea Otters were ever to be "reintroduced" to Pass Lake they would decimate every living thing that lives in those waters. EVERY LIVING THING. Of course they would be forced to move on to the other nearby lakes and repeat this process. This example is ( of course) just hypothetical, but it serves to illustrate (on a small scale) what would happen ON A LARGE SCALE if Sea Otters were ever "reintroduced" to the Salish Sea. Surely non of us would champion any effort to reintroduce Sea Otters at Pass Lake...however many college educated , properly funded people, would lie their asses... off and claim that this would be a good idea for the Salish Sea.....for enough money.
That the sea otters would probably not have tipped the balance if not for rampant overfishing?adumcu280 Excellent!!!! People on the forum are learning. I like that. " The otters simply tipped the balance and caused the population to collapse"..what more needs to be said? These cute fury creatures are a force of nature.
I would have to ignore 99% of the forum thenWouldn't it be easier to use the ignore option?
This wasn't meant as an insult.I'm thinking it's quite simple...you've never spent time in graduate school studying a physical or biological science.
Logic would say the 99% are not the problem.I would have to ignore 99% of the forum then![]()

A conspiracy to 'move-on', so to speak?Alright alright. Where is @Coach Potter ? I’m gonna jump in as assistant coach. Everybody here needs to take a couple of laps and then circle up and take a knee. Croc, good to see you back. Let’s hear what you’ve been growing or catching. Now, we all have had a great time goofing off and grab-assing. Time to move on though. I think we’ve covered it.

To add, scientists/academics tend to be skeptics by nature - show me the data, then I might believe you, but I will spend a lot of time trying to poke holes; was the methodology sound, was the sample size adequate, what were the assumptions, etc, etc. It is part of the job as a peer reviewer and as a reviewer of grant applications. And as a reviewer of grant applications, you have to be able to defend your position (favourable or unfavourable) to the others on the review panel and present very solid thorough critiques that the applicant can use going forward. It is hardly a cabal of "yes" folks. This wasn't meant as an insult.
Let me express the intent behind my statement above; I don't think, having spent a fair amount of time around tenured research faculty, that one could find a group of people less inclined to engage in research conspiracies. Such academics tend to have powerfully independent personalities...to the point they are simply incapable of 'caving-in' to such direction.
In most respects they're quite "un-manageable'...a trait I suspect most university administrations and department chairs would agree.
Their financial security is utterly secure, the only currency that holds any sway is the continued respect from their peers for the integrity of their research findings...which are subject to intense peer review by comparably qualified research professionals...who live to find experimental research design flaws.
As for their subordinate masters and pre/post-doctoral 'helpers'....to commit any sort of conspiratorial research activity would amount to career suicide.
Not before I GET PAID…A conspiracy to 'move-on', so to speak?![]()
