Jake wasn't his usual self
Putting it lightly, there. It may be time to get the hip replaced, which sucks because it’ll knock me out in the middle of all the good fishing seasons.

But not being able to stand in a boat is fairly limiting too, so maybe it’s 6 of one and a half-dozen of the other.

Thanks again for a fun day, brother. I hope you’re able to put that rod to good use.

As a young person thats dealt with a lot of injuries and pain. What's worse missing a season or managing pain forever? I'm getting so tired of managing pain.
You’re right, it’s just one of the many reasons I have avoided it over the years. At 43 it’s time I start doing the more reasonable long-term things instead of the impulses and immediate payoffs.

Nobody I know that has had a joint replacement of any kind wished they had waited longer...they wished they had done it sooner...

I feel for you guys. I know a lot of us have issues. I've been dealing with back/neck pain from an on the job injury 20 years ago, and all this moving is killing me. Fortunately I know rest and PT brings me back to manageable. Good luck.
I can relate to the sea sick folks, that's me. Can't fly either. The boat and seas would probably collapse my spine too. I'm pretty happy hearing your stories and seeing the action through the camera lens though.

Tom, if I can fish on a pitching amd rolling steel hulled charter 4 times a year with a cracked C7, missing the disk and vertebrae from the L4 S whatever, with a piece of pelvic bone fused into the space, and 8 screws holding the spine and pelvis together, you can fish tuna.

K, my wife gets motion sick, too. She took a page from ancient India fishing medicine and started chewing ginger candy before roller coastering. None of the nasty side effects from Scopolomime, etc.

Steve is likely still at the dentist getting his teeth put back in his jaw.

The ocean was um ...special today. Very, very special.
Because salt water taffy?

It was a sporting sea today... The winds were about 9 - 12 knots and the seas reached almost 7 feet. And in addition to the bigger swells, there was lots of wind chop to knock us around. It took us at least 3 hours to run offshore. At one point on the way out, Nick wanted us to confirm that we wanted more punishment... Conditions were improving through the afternoon with the wind dropping and the swells dropping and the sun coming out.
In spite of the challenges, we (@Bagman, @SilverFly, and @SteelHeadDave and I) put 12 albacore in the boat (and lost a half-dozen more for a variety of reasons). At one point, we were fighting 4 fish simultaneously - fun times. But mostly it was singles on the troll. @SilverFly actually picked up at least two while we were stopped and we hooked some fish on the slide, something that has been rare this season. We had a hard time getting the fish to come up in a classic bait stop. And we had a visit by 8-9' thresher shark that nosed around the boat a few times.

I'm really disappointed I missed such a fun trip, I'm sure I would've put more chum in the water than your deck hand LOL

I did purchase one of those electric wrist bands to try sometime!

Sounds rough. Good on you guys for sticking with it

You and me both brother. None of us saw this one coming
all the chatter about how gnarly things were yesterday are giving me pause about going Saturday. Seeing a massive variance between forecast models for wind and waves always gives me cold feet.

I'll probably keep an eye on things as today progresses, but starting to feel like I should stay in, despite it likely being ok. Just not much room for error with a boat like mine.

Sounds like it was worse down your way yesterday. I know SNB turned around on the way out.

I didn't expect a beautiful, flat ocean, but I certainly didn't expect what we got either. 10-12 knots the entire way out, while occasionally going through slower patches, was just brutal.

Forecast today and tomorrow looks pretty dang nice, but at this point I'm just expecting the worst lol.

Not easy conditions for fly fishing, that's for sure. Trying to cast from the bow was not even close to easy. I did manage to hook one briefly on our first stop, but that was all I managed.

I may not be able to make the 9/27 trip I have booked. Would anyone be interested in taking my spot on Friday 9/27 or know someone who might be?

I’ll eat the deposit if I have to to fill the spot so you’d only be on the hook for $420 plus the tip (deposit was $202). I’ve got gear I can loan too; two rods and reels all rigged, lots of flies, and bibs of various sizes.

I’ve also booked a two tent, two car, four person tent site for the nights of Thursday 9/26 and Friday 9/27 at the American Sunset RV and Tent Resort, which you may be able to have.

Edit: Campsite may/may not be transferable. “Can have” changed to “may be able to have”

I think @PhilR was looking for another trip.

Forecast seems nicer the further south you go for tomorrow. I've already ruled out CR. Just way too much variance in the forecast models for my liking. Newport seems doable, plus, I can salvage with salmon and halibut if we decide not to go the distance.
