Felt Replacement?

Anyone tinker with buying a sheet of felt for sole replacement? I have some amazing old Patagucci Lightweights that are holding up awesome except for the sole. Want to keep the felt to a black or dark gray? Trying to avoid the generic white replacements. As a bonus, any leads on insole replacements?

Thanks,

Scott

My grandpa would rubber cement old carpet to sneakers for me for wading as a kid. Worked pretty well.

Korkers makes a refelting kit for like $30. Can probably be adapted.

A felt sheet, rubber cement and a few tacs would probably work just fine too. Felt with some sort of backing to glue into would probably be easier to adhere.

I mean, they don't stay white for long...
I had a pair of white keds with yellow and white carpet remnants from the neighbors house cemented to the bottom. After the first trip down Thornton creek from Ravenna to Mathews Beach they never looked whiteish again. :ROFLMAO:
Modern felt is so good, hope your replacement project goes well. I like the fit of Korkers and buying a new sole is just so easy.

Hey Scottybs just send them back to Patagonia, they will fix them correctly. They've always treated me fairly.

I'm fortunate in that I get to fish/camp a lot. I am hard on all my outdoor gear. Ive always been upfront with them ( Patagonia) and let them know when problems were my fault. Ive never had a bad experience with any Patagonia interactions.

Good luck.

I had this same thought based on my own many positive experiences with Patagonia's warranty and/or service folks, but since these are a really old discontinued model (I think), I also recalled that in that case Patagonia has been happy to offer me a new model or a big rebate on a current model, but rarely will they repair it themselves. I think in this case, Scottybs might just need to do his own repair. I suppose it doesn't hurt to ask, though! Maybe just don't mail them off...you might not get them back.

i have had good luck buying the replacement felt kits from sporting good stores. I also have an extra tube of 3m 1300 cement. Remove the old sole and if possible use it as a pattern to cut your new sole to size. I fill my boots with newsprint to aid in the tapeing process. Glue the sole of the boot and the surface of the felt and allow the glue to semi dry till tacky then put it on the boot. I use a lot of duct tape to hold it in place to let it dry . It doesnt look like a factory job when done because of the yellow cement but its cheaper than buying a new pair of high end boots.

Thats the one of the drawbacks with Patagonia, often times they will issue a credit and new is not always better. The lightweights are great boots.
