Can you guys remind me what you use for leaders? 6 ft of 30 lb fluoro?

Usually 30 or 25 lb. fluoro yes, but there have been times we thought the tuna were being "selective" on flies/artificials, and I downsized flies to match sauries and I also went down to 20 lb. leader.

After the last several days of absolutely wide open albacore fishing, today things were a bit goofy. Started around where we'd been lighting them up, but soon all our boats were super spread out looking. Finally zeroed in on an area that had a ton of working birds and small jumper patches but they were being very finicky. Weren't biting troll lures well at all, and if we could get into position to stop on jumpers and go right to bait they wouldn't stick around long. There was a metric ton of what I can only assume were saurie in the area. I didn't see much, but the birds and fish were so active they were obviously feeding on something. I did finally get a glimpse of what appeared to be a large school of very large saurie darting out from the boat about 20' down as I trolled by but couldn't confirm ID.

I had a group of gear anglers onboard, but all day I was thinking that a smaller fly might be just the ticket so finally late in the day, and against my better judgement (just regarding complicating matters and potentially breaking a fly rod), I grabbed a bug rod rigged with a smaller blue/white/silver baitfish patterns and had my deckhand hold it on the troll. It made it about 3 minutes before he hooked up. The last 4 bites of the day were all on the trolled fly, while none of the standard stuff got sniffed.

Saw some pictures of what looked like a big mess of yellowtail caught by an All Rivers boat I assume yesterday. On a trip on Saturday, so pretty interesting. Yellowtail is my favorite fish to smoke. So so good.

Must be a little choppy offshore with all the low pressure systems cycling through.

Where did you see this pic?

Sounds like I need to start finding weather buoys
