Olympics 2024

I only watch events without judges for scoring.

Channel 99. CBUTD Non USA coverage is much better, more nuetral, and just more action, less fluff.
Right. But again, they only show a very minor percent of the events. And, like it or not, they show canadian teams/athletes primarily. So if you want to watch USA kayaking or fencing or whatever, you probably aren't going to find it there.

True but I find you get more overall coverage of the events/action and around the clock too. But NBC seems to be doing a better job this year from what I have seen. Use to be to much fluff before. Very little this year. 👍

All depends on your definition of 'fluff"..

Who knows what they're even doing that the Olympics these days. Who even knows. Who cares!!!??? Who even cares these days!!! All these various pole jumps and whatnot. Who cares!!!!!??? All these various events!!!! And varios audiences thereunfor!!!! These days it's all these various events. Who cares!??

One thing that always annoys me is how difficult it is to figure out where to watch a given Olympic sport. So much of this stuff is televised, but so little makes it to a screen you can see.
Peacock. We use peacock and it seems like everything is there without the mushy human interest stuff. You can search by sport.

Always interesting to see the sports that have almost no USA (or CAN) representation. For example, a lot of the whitewater events just seem dominated by other countries.

Speaking of canoe/kayaking, there is a WA athlete competing in single/double kayak racing, Jonas Ecker.

We subscribed to Peacock just for the Olympics, and have most definitely not been pleased with the content. Plus there are shitloads of ads.

Now that I've aired my grievance I need to perform some feat of strength...maybe I'll climb out of my power recliner without lowering the leg support first.

In fact, I may attempt to complete the maneuver three times to get three beers.

If successful the move will forever be known as a 'Triple Krusty'.

I admit, I've been watching a lot of it via... "less than official" methods.

Makes it a bit harder to schedule and I don't advise it if you don't have a robust anti virus setup. But it also means that there's always SOMETHING on somewhere. The EU has a LOT of sports channels.

How are Rugby sevens games only 14 minutes long? No wonder I feel like I keep missing big chunks of them. I'm not turning them on too late, they just don't last long.

They're not limited to 14 minutes ....that's just how long they typically last before a team runs out of uninjured players.

Watched the Women's Archery Gold medal round last night, and mentally compared what these ladies were accomplishing to my own experience of archery hunting 20+ years ago... They're using 33 lb recurves with fingers (i.e. no mechanical release) and hitting the bullseye 70 meters (~77 yards) away! I wish the camera would've shown a view angling down the range, to show how much of an arc the arrow flight has.

I remember I was using a fast, flat shooting 65# compound bow, and a release, still struggling to consistently hit the bullseye at 30 - 40 yards.

Impressive.

The men's French basketball team with twin towers Gobert & Webanyama almost lost to Japan...they were down 4 points with 10 seconds left when they hit a 3 pointer and was fouled on the shot to put it into overtime...

I’m a bit behind, the opening ceremony threw me off. I would have thought the Olympics were about sporting events, silly me 🤠.

Best of luck to all the athletes, especially the US ones. I wouldn’t mind watching skate, volleyball and judo, the speed climbing sounds interesting too.

Summer McIntosh from Canada is going to win many golds and 1st place trophies until she retires.
I feel sorry for all the other ladies fighting for 2nd place.
Really wish I could watch this on the CBC, but it seems to be blocked. Peacock/NBC was busy talking about the second and third place swimmers and barely mentioned the winner.

Go Summer, Go Canada

cheers

Just watched a great win for US Women's rugby. Down 5 with the last seconds on the clock they ran the field to score, converted the kick, and won their first medal in the event ever, a bronze. Never watched a lot of rugby before but always respected it. Those guys and girls are fucking tough! I think some NFL diva WRs would do well to go to some matches...

There is another WA athlete competing in women's sprint canoe (C1). She is from Seattle area and won gold in Tokyo. Her name is Nevin Harrison. Hoping she can win gold again.

The Archery final arrow is gnarly! Imagine working for something for four years(well, probably since you were a young child but going all in the last 4) and it comes down to one shot!

@Merle they showed a couple side shots and I was shocked at the arch in their shots.
