As an fyi, there are signs posted that the Little St. Joe Road which connects to Gold Creek (and leads to the upper section of the St. Joe) is apparently closed for construction until September 1st. We managed to drive up on Sunday. But we did pass equipment staged in the lower sections. There is a single sign at the start of the Little St. Joe Road and a single sign at the start of Gold Creek Rd. On our way out to I-90 and further adventures, (we were heading east to Missoula) we drove over Moon Pass to reach I-90 which connect Avery and Wallace. We were tempted to try the Little St. Rd to St. Regis from the St. Joe but I didn’t want to drive 3/4rs of the way down the pass and have to backtrack.

I forgot about that. When we went over 2 weeks ago, the sign outside St Regis was a barely readable electronic one. Gambled pulling out trailer, talked to a truck driver. Was open then, being graveled/compacted. For once we could hit decent speeds, only 2 close calls with trucks running back empty.

I looked into the situation a bit more and they are replacing two culverts on the Little Joe Rd. And some road improvements. The closure may end early if the projects are completed early. I am not that fond of the road up from St. Marie’s as there is a risk of driving off the road as we parallel the river.

You mean because you’re staring at and drooling over all the fishy water while trying to keep ‘er between the lines?

Or how rough the road is. Even going around the south end of the lake.
Makes me wonder where they are doing the culvert work considering the time/expense of graveling it first.

Road is still open as of today
That is fortunate. Here is the USFS press release:
"The second phase of this project will include the upgrade of two stream crossing structures. The first at the mile post 10 will replace the existing culvert crossing with a bottomless arch structure. The second at mile post 7.4 will replace the existing culvert with a precast concrete bridge. Both new crossing structures are designed to accommodate flows from a 100-year flood event and provide passage for all aquatic organisms. The nature of this work will require the closure of the Little Joe Road, Forest Road 282 from its junction with South Fork Little Joe Road, Forest Road 221, to its junction with Two Mile Road, Forest Road 431. The road closure will begin on July 8 and will be in place until September 1 unless construction is completed sooner. Please refer to the Alerts and Notices webpage to view Forest Closure Order 24-007-Lolo-D7 for more information."
