Baseball 2024

Happy Bobby Bonilla Day.
Bobby gets his 14th installment of $1,193,248.20 today. There's 11 years and $11,932,482 left.

Sad to see the Orioles caught up in that mess. Luckily they’re only on the hook til 2028.
On the plus side the Os are in town tomorrow to do some ass kicking.
Go Orioles!

I wish they would not show the strike zone all the time. We all know the umps are inconsistent and it just adds to frustration especially if it not being used officially yet.
It is hard to understand why MLB allows the strike zone to be shown on TV when so many calls are just so wrong. The umpires lack of ability to make correct calls is on display with every pitch yet they still cling to the model of a fat blind guy missing the call by several inches then having the authority to eject a player for protesting the umps approximation of where the pitch was.

MLB showcases Plays of the Week to display all of the incredible plays made in the past 7 days. I would like to see a corollary to that called Umpire Blunders of the Week naming names, umpire rankings and how the bad calls altered the games.

The strike zone is a complex 3-D structure, which has changed over MLB time. Before complaining too much we should all study the innuendo of today's strike zone. Height, stance, temperature, humidity, light refraction, atmospheric pressure, and the coriolis effect are but a few variables that define the strike zone. Every pitch is simultaneously a ball and a strike in the world of quantum mechanics.

If the ump doesn't see the pitch, is it really a strike, is it really a ball ?
I used to throw a mean Shrodingers Knuckle Ball...it was both a ball and a strike...
It was wiffle ball, but hey...
:)

Do teams 'scout' the umpires e.g. look at consistency of calls aka within/outside strike zone. Or are the umpires so inconsistent that it is a crap shoot aka lots of crappy calls?

They 100% do.

Y'all should take a look at umpire scorecards, easily found online. As bad as we think they are, league wife they get 95% of ball-strike calls correct.

Why ruin a perfectly good bitch session with facts ?
This aggression will not stand...

If the mail man was 95% correct, they would be fired.

Very few of us were ever hired to do our job 95%.

As for the strike zone it has to be very different between Jose Altuve and Aaron Judge. Baseball keeps track of so many obscure stats that it should be a simple matter to post a K-Zone for each individual player in the league and all of the guys in the minors as well. Any high school kid with a computer should be able to handle such a light workload. With that information MLB should project a K-Zone for each batter and have the computer make the call. I would feel a lot better about 99.9% accuracy than 95%. And I don't want to fly an airline that has a 95% successful landing rate either.

Lol
Balls and Strikes aren't a life or death matter...

If there's a computerized strike zone, it'll be hacked, you can count on that.

:)

If/when hacked , by which team? Obviously not both teams.

So wait until the next day/week to determine which team won? Perfect...

I really just enjoy/love the game, I find griping such a waste of my enery, i'll save it for more important things.

Go Royals!!!
That’s why I love the Short Season Wood Bat League games. The players (like Travis Bazzana) are up-n-comers…the future stars of the game. You get some unexpected quality play and the umpire expectations are less demanding on the soul. It’s a great enjoyable evening pastime. 😉😁

Astros only 2 games back...

Houston will be in 1st place very soon. Houston has the best BA in the league. Seattle has the worst BA. Seattle can not take advantage of the few runners that are on base. Most recently Seattle is 4 for ~40 with RISP. When the teams DH is batting around 200 ---> Enough said....

Allstar break can not come soon enough. The players should not be taking time off ---> they need to learn how to hit the ball....

Hard to say how the season will develop. Highs & Lows. The Rangers are starting to get guys off the injured list, so they might start making a move in July.
