Puget Sound

How about baby steps...just a pic first.

:)

Stonedfish sort of day, drizzly, cloudy, chilly and generally good conditions for working...so no fishing today for me.

Horizon is off axis, out of focus, lens needs to be cleaned. Nice try though 🙃😁

In all seriousness I’m with Jasmillo, the photos help give the outing some clarity. Nice pic!
You should see my moon pics !!!!

I've taken the @Salmo_g approach to fish pics...
😁

No beach glass by me, but perhaps I can find some garbage ?

To be honest, super busy right now, got a bunch of work going on and so not much fishing except at lunch for an hour or so...all private beaches with zero fishing pressure, posted and enforced...I enforce it sometimes. Never seen anyone fishing that I didn't run off, and that was only a few times. Folks beaching their boat and wading right in front of the signs.
Those 'starvation stick' bug flingers...no respect I tell ya.
😄

Next time I fish I will try to remember my phone...doesn't mean I will, but I'll try.

Getting closer...

Hit the salt with @Kfish today. Started off the morning searching for SRC. Found some but they were all small. At low, we ran out to some points in an open MA looking to see if there were any rezzies we might entice. A little test fishing to see what shape they might be in when 9 opens. After a little searching, we found some on bait in about 20-25 feet of water off a point. I personally started off the year per the usual…1-4 :). Lou’s land ratio was a little better than mine. Fish were healthy and should be even more fun to catch in late July and August.

The one rezzie landed. I’d say 2.5 lbs or so, 3 tops. Hell of a fighter though. My first solid coho run since October :).

Little SRC. Caught a handful all in this size range. Slow day for them.

Beautiful day.

@jasmillo ’s call paid off when we found those rezzies, not easy to do this early in season, otherwise it would have been pretty ho hum SRC fishing.
2/2 solid rezzies for me, great start of coho season and will ease my FOMO when we’re out of town for the next 3 weeks.

These 2 were pretty tamed and came to the net easy, didn’t do runs under the boat much like Jason’s hot fish. I was expecting a rod breakage the way it was wrapped around the boat :)

Compared to many on this forum, I have very little boat/coho experience. Last year was the first time I used my boat a significant amount to target them. That said, I carry the same lines I fish from the beach. Intermediate and I/3/5. Last year we had some success with an I/6 in deeper rips but unfortunately that line shit the bed. The replacement is an I/9 for this year which others here have said works great.

Last year the intermediate got the least amount of use from the boat. There are applications though. Feeding fish on grass flats in particular.

Was lighting fireworks today off a MA 9 beach and saw thousands of small fish jumping out of the water from the shoreline to 30 yards out. Probably 2-3 inches long and did not act like herring or sandlance (or other baitfish). Rather, it was like observing the smolts you see jumping in the hatchery troughs.

This has been an area where I have observed pink outmigration in March/April but I was thinking it might be too late for them. Could these have been pink smolt?

Chinook and coho smolt hang around in Puget Sound for a while

There's enough trash out there - why you lighting fireworks from the beach? Parking lots are more suitable #noFunZone

I was actually thinking about that but figured that a few Roman candles won’t hurt. I never get over excessive with fireworks, while other people like my neighbors treat the 4th of July like it’s a war.

Paved surfaces are actually the biggest source of water pollution in the Puget Sound fyi. Whenever we get the next rainstorm (whether it will be next week or in September), it will bring all the shit that’s accumulated on the streets into the Sound and river systems.

Fished the last two mornings for rezzies west side MA10. Wish I had a nice fish pic to post, but the closest I’ve gotten is a 2lber swiping twice at my fly 5ft in front of me this morning. That was enough to make me go back tomorrow! Used my Cortland Compact type 3 for the first time this morning and love the way it casts. Will probably be my main beach line this season. Weather isn’t ideal but i’ve seen some good jumpers so I have hope!
