Headed south with a buddy to one of our favorite put and take lakes. First time for me fishing fresh water in over a year.
Good numbers of fish to hand, but we didn’t break 200….or even 100. 😉
My buddy got most of his trolling a type 7 with a green bugger. I dropped the anchor and started with a brown balanced leech. Caught a few on that and noticed some bugs coming off and birds working. Some really big husks, so started with a size 10 chromie on top and a light pink thread body, silver rib and white bead on the bottom. This lake is know for having a good pink lady hatch and the bugs being large. The pink out fished the chromie three to one I’d say, but all the bigger fish came on the chromie.
I measured the water with my homemade weight and string at 16’. My measuring device is wrapped on a 3” wide section of pipe insulation. The thing is so big I’m surprised I could fit in the boat with that thing. 😂
Lots of recent stockers landed with a couple of fish in the 15-16” range. I only took one pic all day. I should also mention, it was way too hot. 🔥🔥🔥

Nice report! Of the two of you, which technique was the most productive - the full sink/deep line or the floating line with chironomids? Did you try any subsurface with sinking lines?
 
The bobber game with chironomids out fished the trolled bugger.
I didn’t fish a sinking line yesterday.

I’ll admit Wayne, when it comes to lake fishing these days when I actually do it, I’m lazy as hell.
By the way, no swivel but I did use a rubber bobber stop. 😂😂😂
Probably many demerits headed my way for breaking the unwritten rules of stillwater fishing. 😉

Not entirely convinced this is your pic/fish since there are no blue nitrile in the frame :)
 
I use swivels to help straighten the leader out when casting and then use them as weight rather than lead. Bigger swivels equal more weight. Perfect 👌!

It seems some hatcheries tend to produce Toxic Avenger stockers.
I also think the smaller they are planted at, especially fry tend to produce much nicer looking fish. The concrete tank environment doesn’t do much for their fins and noses versus getting to grow in a lake.
