NFR What podcasts are you listening to?

Non-fishing related
What podcasts are everyone listening to? They don’t have to be fishing related, but there’s definitely a few of those that are good.

I listen to mostly comedy podcasts, but here’s what’s in my weekly rotation.

Comedy Bang Bang- Hosted by Scott Aukerman, this is an improv interview show that features up to 3 guests who are all playing characters and being interviewed by Scott. It’s been one of my favorite shows for about 8 years.

Bill Burr’s Monday Morning Podcast(and the Thursday Afternoon Just Before Friday)- This is Comedian Bill Burr rambling by himself, and occasionally having a guest on Thursday. If you have Netflix and have never heard of him, go watch his specials. In my opinion he’s one of the greatest comics of all time.

Tuesdays with Stories- Comedians Joe List and Mark Normand riff back and forth and talk stories from their week of doing shows around the country. Both are really great comics, and I highly suggest watching all of their material.

Star Wars Minute- Pete the Retailer and Alex Robinson break down each Star Wars movie minute by minute. I realize this sounds somewhat boring, but if you’re a soft core to hardcore Star Wars fan, I’m 95% sure you’ll love it.

Wet Fly Swing- I’m sure a lot of you listen to this. Dave has a pretty good thing going, and he gets better at interviews with every episode. Great fly fishing show.

Sound of Hockey- Seattle Kraken/Hockey show hosted by 3 Hockey writers. If you’re a fan of the Kraken, I highly recommend this.

PuckOff!- NHL/Hockey show hosted by comedian Joe Bartnick, comedian and radio legend Frazer Smith, and Andy Picarro.
(I like hockey)

Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History- This is basically an audiobook. Each episode is at least 3 hours long, talking about a specific event in human history. He has a couple singular episodes, but most are 4-6 episode series. This is highly recommended.

Heynongman!

Comedy Bang Bang is one of my favorites. Seen their live show at The Moore twice and it was great both times.

Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend and Smartless are my other main two in rotation.

Seahawks podcast Cigar Thoughts with Jacson Bevens, and Mariners podcast Extra Innings with Ryan Divish and Larry Stone

Looking forward to finding some more podcasts to check out on this thread!

I started listening to Smartless on Spotify on my runs and walks. Will Arnett and Justin Bateman (both from Arrested Development) and Sean Hayes (Will and Grace) have great chemistry. I have forgotten some I’ve listened to and loved but David Grohl, Jon Stewart, Ricky Gervais, Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman come to mind. I especially love Will Arnett!

What i remember about watching Comedy Bang Bang quite awhile ago was the first time i ever saw Bob Odenkirk ever ….AND it was the first time i watched the show. (This was before Better Call Saul, but I’m not sure if it was before Breaking Bad but it must have been because Breaking Bad is one of my favorite all time series).

Anyway Odenkirk appeared as a guest on the show and was in perfect form as he performed his many bird calls and he never broke. I thought he was a serious guest on the show who really was there for the bird calls. He was that good at staying in character.

It reminded me of The Potato Chip lady on Johnny Carson. Some of us might remember the sweet little old lady who brought her collection potato chips to Johnny’s show. ( I believe they were shaped that like president’s profiles or something like that). When she looked away, i think at Ed MacMahon because he distracted her, Johnny pretended to eat one of her precious shaped chips and the look on her face when she heard that chomp is priceless.

I have tried to find that video online many times since Bob Odenkirk rose to fame and haven’t been able to. I’m pretty sure it was Comedy Bang Bang. But i could be wrong.

does anyone remember this ….or the Potato Chip Lady on Johnny Carson?

The Dave Chang Show: a mix of ridiculous and informative in the food universe

Now and Then with Heather Cox Richardson and Joanne Freeman: current events put into historical context

No Skips with Shea Serrano and Jinx: deep dives into iconic hip hop albums

The big hit show (only season 2): an exploration of how major pop culture influences come to exist. Season 1 was about the twilight series. Season 2 is about Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly

  • Wet Fly Swing
  • Troutbitten
  • Fly Fish Food
  • Orvis
  • Ellensburg Angler
  • Theo Von
  • Shane Gillis
I'll still listen to a JRE episode, if the guest is good enough, but that show has gone downhill.

Big fan of The Volume. Mostly enjoy Cowherd, Draymond Green and Aquib Talib. All smart dudes with very unique delivery of their sports topics.

SVS Fishing....lots of musky and small mouth talk.

+1 for Dan Carlin’s hardcore history. The WW1 & WW2 stuff in particular is mind boggling. I was a regular listener to the Common Sense pod from about 2010 until it dried up.

Stay Tuned with Preet for current events.

Cigar Thoughts Seahawks talk.

Breaking Waves tells a perspective on the 90’s Seattle music explosion.

I don’t know if they’re still available but Spooked was a Halloween-themed series put out by Snap Judgement in NYC. The first couple years were great.

Jocko Podcast
Rogan- depending on the guest
Cleared Hot
Run the Power (football)
Meat Eater
Coach and Coordinator Podcast
The Unravelling
Industrial Strength Show
Barbell Life

Dan Carlin just released a new Common Sense episode the other day. There’s a link in this thread. It’s a great episode.

I like the Criminal podcast. My wife and I like to listen to it when we are on long car trips. My favorite episode is called Ten Thousand Feet In The Air about a guy who high jacks a plane. Lots of other good ones as well.

Another comedy podcast. This is Mark Normand and Sam Morril. They have a drink or two and talk comedy.

Spooked is great.

I don't even know where to find podcasts or how to listen to them other than here on my computer, which seems like a waste of time. Seems like a podcast would be good filler while I'm doing something useful, or while walking around the lake. So do you load them onto your phone and listen to them the same as if you have music on your phone? I don't have music on my phone, I have it on an MP3 player.

Absolutely remember the Potato Chip Lady (I don't do the Podcast thang); enjoy

cheers

About the only time I listen to a radio is when I'm in my truck driving down or up a road. And it's just for noise so I don't have to hear my truck rattle.

I’m not any sort of tech wizard but I’ve been using a smart phone to access podcasts since roughly 2009. Any sort of device that connects to an app library should get you there. Pre Covid I was a daily commuter and podcasts filled my hours on the road.

Same, makes commuting 1.25 hours each direction much more tolerable. I find I have less road rage while listening to a good podcast.
