If the country doesn't change from within, a new dictator usually just pops up to replace the old one. Being new and eager to make their mark, they're also often more enthusiastic about dictating stuff.
Generally true, Putain (for our francophone members) may be the exception.

Putin's assets are frozen. It will be interesting to observe the personal sanctions imposed on Putin as they are applied. At least it is not only the US imposing the personal sanction. Several NATO nations imposed that sanction before we did. Based on some discussion I have heard, it would mean it is illegal to accept any money from him. Does that mean his beautiful yacht would not be able to get any fuel except from Russia? Such a shame... LOL

White House Press Secretary Psaki indicated it would/could include a travel ban. That would add to his isolation from the countries that support it.

Very interesting times the world is in right now...
i'll be monitoring his twitter for complaints about cancel culture

I hate what's happening to the Ukrainian people, but I hate the prospect of us going to war with Russia a lot more.

Have some of you forgotten that Putin has a finger on "The Button?" Increasingly unstable as he is becoming, do you seriously not think he will use it as soon as he starts to feel the walls closing in? These are frightening times, indeed. We need to hope HARD that the Russian people can somehow change Putin's mind, but I see no great reason for optimism on that front this evening.

I have thought about it but quickly realized it is at so many multiple pay levels above me that there is not anything I can do about it. It is not worth the energy expended to do that. We have highly trained professionals with decades of experience running these countries that are experienced in war - nuclear, cyber and conventional and capable of making well-thought and rational split-second decisions. There is nothing to worry about. We are in good hands.

I would rather think about how multiple countries deploying numerous naval ships to the region, personnel speaking different languages, and each vying for the best location are going to avoid from running into each other:

And then the massive number of satellites being deployed or moved above Russia. They do not exist so what is there to worry about? Since they do not exist how can they collide? They can't of course. You do realize satellites are not powered by batteries - right? Nothing better than a nuclear explosion in space.

Country #1 satellite operator to country #2 satellite operator: I can not confirm nor deny there are any satellites out there but the 49th parallel is fairly crowded with space debris.

Country #2 satellite operator to country #1 satellite operator: Roger that. I can not confirm nor deny there are any satellites out there but the 49.5th parallel is looking good with no space debris.

So just sit back, watch all these politicians do their thing. Nothing to worry about...

You don’t think any of these super incredible almost too perfect to believe heroic stories coming out maybe aren’t exactly true?

In spite of the outcome, this war has pretty much become a spectator sport.

Before the invasion we saw satellite pictures of Russian forces every day. Don't see as many now though. I'm a bit upset that the allied forces don't trust the American public with advanced intelligence.

Is anyone else surprised at the condition of the Russian equipment? Looks old and outdated. In my head I was expecting top of the line brand new stuff. No wonder they are having supple chain issues.

It's funny you don't hear from the more "sky is falling" type experts until the sky has actually falling. We always want to think bad things can't or won't happen. In this case we all pretty much figured Putin was bluffing or posturing.
But only now we hear from experts saying things like " Yeah we knew at Christmas that Putin was for sure going to invade"

To your comments about spectator sports. You're absolutely right and to some extent it certainly shows some not so nice things about us. Their suffering is our great entertainment?
Our living room sofas or computer desks the new coliseum? Don't want to take this too far but a little introspection of this? Yeah maybe so.

Very suprised... I expected a modern professional military. Either they sent in the B team or the Russian army is in really bad shape. Maybe all that money is in Putin's pockets instead?
Makes me curious about his nuclear arsenal.. how many of his missiles have fuel? How many would actually launch? How many would guide? How many would detonate? Not something I really want an answer to of course but it really brings into question their status as a superpower.

The An-225, the world's largest aircraft, has been destroyed.
That's very unfortunate.

As a kid, I had the opportunity to visit that plane when it was in the States. It was massive. I remember walking past the rear landing gear and counting all the tires as there were so many.

This is flat out bullsh!t, unless 'we' is just you.

US intelligence has been saying for weeks, even months now they expected Russia to invade, as has many independent analysts.
Not sure where you get your info, but probably due for a new source if that's what you're getting.

Lol

A little birdie told me that if you seize a mega-yacht you get to keep it for yourself 🤫

Think the front of the 465' "Nord" yacht is any good for a casting platform as a I float the Yak?

... Or sometimes the opposite to the above cartoon is true - Ockham’s razor - other things equal, explanations that posit fewer entities, or fewer kinds of entities, are to be preferred to explanations that posit more, ie, you find yourself having to chase conspiracy after conspiracy to support your theory, it is likely wrong, (not to be political, but think of rigged election claims - China did it with Italian satellites after Germany kidnapped the CIA director ...). It's been said, critical thinking: Does this follow from that (logic), does it make sense, what other explanations are there ... just use your brain.

cheers
Yeah, going with your gut as opposed to critical thinking and analysis is always the right path...

Article 5 provides that if a NATO Ally is the victim of an armed attack, each and every other member of the Alliance will consider this act of violence as an armed attack against all members and will take the actions it deems necessary to assist the Ally attacked.

Yupp. US executive branch has been consistent if this threat for months. Some congress members, foreign EU/NATO leaders, news casters, etc. were disregarding it, downplaying it, or calling those who correctly saw the threat delusional.

Here's an interesting perspective; a former American intelligence officer, on Russian state-run TV.

Edit: Whoa. Never mind. This dude is a weirdo. I guess they are paying him to be part of their propaganda machine.

RT is propaganda.
Sad story where Ritter went in his views.
You could delete your post or at least the media vs just an edit comment. J
