According to Snopes the video was faked with gaming software but the Ukrainian military did claim 5 Russian planes and a helicopter were downed.
Snopes has been fact checked and outted to not being a reliable source anymore. πŸ˜‰

Perhaps. But let's be honest, how many of us here have any clue what it's like to actually face the chance to pick up a gun and fight a foreign invader?

I'd love to say that when faced with a foreign invader actually entering my country that I would stand up and fight till the end, but if I'm perfectly honest I have no idea. In the grand scheme of things I've lived an awfully protected life and haven't had to endure things even remotely close to what those people are currently faced with.
I would 100% Alamo up in Soap Lake with my boos.

"Soap Lake leader you are surrounded. Surrender immediatly."

"This is Billy Bass MF."

Gotta hand it to these folks and hope we would do the same. Now on Ukrainian TV, youtube type videos on how to make Molotov cocktails. And now Putin is accusing the US, that's you and I, of telling Ukrainians to hide their military assets in hospitals and schools. Somebody is going to have to stop this lying self-obsessed bully described by some as a "genius". Maybe now is that time.

I'm pretty out of my element with such things, but what is the downside of kicking Russia off of SWIFT?

Why would any country who condemns this invasion be hesitant to support such a move? I keep thinking they must be worried about something but I'm not sure what that would be.
When ya put all your eggs in one basket or sleep with the devil… πŸ˜‰

Billy Bass, "Hah! You can't get away that easily!

"Ole Billy Bass said we could take 'em by surprise,
if we didn't fire our AKs till we looked 'em in the eyes;
We held our fire till we seen their faces well,
then we opened up our AKs and really gave the Russkies hell!
We fired once more, and they began to runnin',
all the way to Belarus . . .

Don't forget to tell them you're a Mod....

I was reading some articles earlier today regarding the cyber part of this.
Groups like Anonymous are pledging to attack Russia, ransom ware groups are promising to attack back.
Lots of moving parts in this unfortunate situation for Ukraine.

I really wish that the Russian people cast off Putin and his corrupt circle of mafia style oligarchs. Russia could be a truly great country if it was free to develop without the ruling mafia stealing from and stifling its own people. They don't need Putin. A democratic Russia would flourish socially and economically. Nukes and tanks don't make a country great in the 21st century. Russian society has produced great art, music, literature, science, etc for centuries.

Ukraine was turning the corner the past few years. I hope they can continue as a free and independent country once this war ends. They will obviously have to fight incredibly hard and negotiate well. It is heart breaking to hear their calls for help go largely unanswered. We can do better.

This...

If you haven't been shot at, or had to shoot back to save your life it's pretty tough to say what you'd do in that situation.
Face it, most of us are old, slow moving targets with little or no military training, with a few exceptions.
Lol
I suspect you'd do what you felt you needed to do if your compadres were depending upon you to perform, despite the pantshitting terror. Defense of homeland propelled the NVA and Viet Cong to victory. Asymmetrical wars of attrition can be rather draining.

I am always concerned when old men (especially politicians who've never served or have spawn that face no prospect of personal risk) engage in belligerent war-talk with no real skin in the game.

For what it's worth Russia has vowed not to use nukes unless Russian land is attacked. Again, for what it's worth.
I think it's rather silly to think that Putin is going to stop with Ukraine. Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia.
Kasikstan. The list goes on. I hope I am wrong and I pray for the people of Ukraine. My brain tells me we need to be blasting the hell out of the Russian troops but I don't know if that's the wise thing to do or not. I guess we needed to know months ago how important Ukraine is to us. If Ukraine isn't important to us then who else also isn't important to us?...
I think if I was trained and in shape I might be on my way to Ukraine on my own.

US civilian volunteers currently serve in non-combat roles.

Russian literature is great.

They've been yoked to a series of failed systems and leaders for so long the collective consciousness of the entire society must be so damaged by the experience that it colors their entire worldview in ways I would never understand.

So...does that mean Putin can expect hundreds of pizzas he didn’t order to suddenly show up at his dacha?

In my more somber and depressed moments I often think war is the natural state of man.

There's plenty of history to support that view.

One thing this does affirm; any nation state pursuaded to give up their nuclear weapons (despite any degree of well-intentioned promises) would be foolish to do so.

North Korea is certainly watching this spectacle.

We are the North Sentinal Island of the universe...
