I’m headed to Zihautenenho next month and I’d love to do some fishing solo and with my son. Does anyone have any more recent tips on where for beach walk and wade? We are staying on Playa Blanca, basically straight off the Zihua airport runway. Any fly centric guide recommendations? Everything I can find is pretty old. The authority Ed Kunze appears to have recently passed away.

I’ve never been compelled to chase a marlin, but why not give it a shot… However, early morning beach fishing is the primary target to keep the fam close and happy.

The plan thus far is to bring an 8 and 10 weigh, saltwater baitfish flies, bonefish/small tarpon leaders, and heavy tippet.

Gracias

I'm of no help whatsoever, and I had to Google the place to find out where it is, so thank you for that.

Safe travels & have a good time.

I can't help you for anything super current, but I was there for my honeymoon a number of years ago and looking out over the bay in the evenings there were never fewer than 3 baitballs getting busted. The food is incredible.

I was there in Feb. 2020. Found some small but aggressive fish near rock formations in front of our hotel in the main harbor. Small flashy baitfish flies worked fine in that scenario. I didn't have an 8wt at the time, but if I went now, I'd bring one of those and look for fishy spots near where you're staying. I did see what looked like a dorado jump while out kayaking in the bay.

That is a bummer to hear Ed Kunze passed. I always enjoyed reading his reports and writings.

A friend sent a video yesterday from on top of a bluff near there. About 30 roosters busting bait in the surf. Is it possible to post video on here?

I think it has to be on a video hosting site
