The whole argument is silly in that the offense, defense and special teams all work together for truly great teams and Peyton and BB are not the only coaches on the team. BB has suffered recently from not having assistant coaches that were up to the standards set by prior coaches. Much of that is his own doing since he refuses to hire outside his circle and has failed recently to get competent OL coaching from coaches that he has trained. Lack of good assistant coaching has led to last years offensive and special teams debacle and this years awful line play. Losing OL coach Dante Scharnecchia has been the biggest blow to the Patriots coaching staff. He left twice. Both times the line play has gone from excellent to awful quickly.

Assistant coaches matter. Consider that Bill Parcells has never won a super bowl without Belichik as the DC. Belichik has only won one as HC without Scarnecchia as OL coach and by the 2nd yr (2015) without Scar the line was awful even with Brady in his prime and getting rid of the ball as quick as he was able to. Two years removed from Scar's latest retirement and the Patriots have the worst OL in football.

I don't know much about Peyton, except that he won a SB with a fairly poor defense and that he is a mini Parcells. He certainly has never won at the clip of BB though.

Bill has also been terrible at drafting for quite a while.
 
Mac Jones needs to improve his groin targeting accuracy to return to 2021 playing level.

Sad to hear all the cries for Belichick's firing after only 5 games. Kraft may have to gracefully exit him before the season ends. A loss to the Raiders would be catastrophic.

Raiders beat the Donkeys, so the Pats will probably be another win for them.
Those 2 teams are the AFC dumpster fires right now.

BB has been poor at drafting skill position players and OT's. He has done poorly signing free agent offensive skill position players as well. He also seems to not spend much capital on those positions in the draft. He usually waits until the later rounds to pick a WR or OT. I think this gets back to losing Scarnecchia and McDaniels. Scarnecchia could take players and make them better like no other. McDaniels offense never required great WR's. Jones looked like a great pick in 2021 in McDaniel's system with awful WR's.

He has drafted really well on the defensive side of the ball.

He has picked 5 starter level defensive players in the last 2 years. Gonzalez, Jones, Jones, Marte, and White

I read that the Patriots had more players in the NFL who started their career with NE than any other team. I am not sure that is true, but it rings true to me. Given how well he does getting defensive players in the draft and undrafted FA defensive players. It's not that he is bad at drafting. It's that he is bad at drafting offensive players.

AFC...So not a big deal to me.
Donkeys probably getting another beatdown, so that will be enjoyable for a bit, but lacks drama.
