NFR Passing Cars Correctly with Space

Non-fishing related
If you're in the right lane there's no reason to do this. If you are in the left lane Molotov cocktails should be thrown in winter at you and in summer a milkshake.

I see more dangerous driving lately with phones and generally a lack of respect for mortality and others as of late. I can honestly say the most dangerous driver on the road is the left lane camper. They frustrate people into taking undue and unsafe risks to get around them.

I ride a bike much of the time all seasons. I'm always acutely aware of who's around me and at what proximity. A left lane driver four cars up causes a pinch for me and impacts my safety. I do not let that happen. I've been known to use the shoulder or turn lane or other avenue as a passing lane to get out of the crowd. Again this is a risk I'm willfully taking but one that I would rather not and should not have to entertain. I often then get flack from the left lane camper up the road as they speed wildly to catch up which tells me that they are at least paying that much attention but too self centered and stupid to act sooner. They don't see this as problem behaviour. Either way I trust myself over a group of mixed idiots driving too close to one another frustrated and likely on their phone part time.

If Washington state patrol enforced left lane camping as much as nickel and dime speeding infractions for max revenue and minimal safety gains our highways would be cleaner, more efficient, and safer for all. Left lane campers should be sent to a concentration camp for reprogramming. At a lack of that face real fines. I figure a left lane camper should pay double the average speeding ticket.
Amen.
Now I'm going to go do my 36 miles highway commute and stare at a long line of cars stuck behind someone that has a mile of clear road ahead of them doing pace with a single car beside him to the right. Every damn time.

Speaking of car pool lane assclowns....how about the ones that put on their brakes just because the other lanes are slowing.... and there’s nobody in front of them??

That's a tough one.
I'm a victim of this around a curve with a merge lane on the back side. Always slows for now reason.
99% of time there is no reason for left lane to slow. Or any lane, it's a long ass merge section.
I'm more apt to fly by at 70 while the next lane is slowing to 30. But there are always those last second people who jerk into the left lane. It can be risky going 30 or 40 miles an hour faster when there is that chance.

I’m a rather slow driver, speed limit or a little over, don’t need to go Mach 10 and danger others so I enjoy the right lane.

But when people pass and then almost cut me off it’s extremely disrespectful. Don’t do that. Why? Well because where are the two places road debris congregates, the middle and the edges.

I was taught this common sense lesson as to not shoot rocks at cars behind me when passing. How the f*** do so many people not get that?

Rant over.
This is one of my pet peeves. I don’t tailgate but this behavior makes me one. A while ago, I saw a bumper sticker that said “The closer you get, the slower I go.” I’ve used this approach a few times where it is safe and it works. They just think I’m an old grandpa. Wait! I am.

thankfully, here in the Bend area we can see what is likely an a$$hole behind the wheel coming...

Those are some of the ones on 1-205 in the left lane camping on a 3-lane highway keeping up with the Beamers, Lexus and Tesla's. going 20+ mph over. I kinda giggle when they go northbound over the Columbia into Washington where a WSP is waiting... Yup, people do it going southbound on 205, too. You would think 205 is a NASCAR track. I am just an observer in the right lane. Bail in Clackamas County STARTS at $260.

I've noticed when on the Interstate that the truck drivers have a competition going on to see who can complete the longest distance pass in the history of the internal combustion engine. Passing at the breakneck speed of .00013 mph faster than the truck next to them, Maybe the Guiness people are responsible?

Yeah, but on a cross country haul that adds up to like 15 minutes.

This rant has been brewing for 6 years…

Seattle drivers are the biggest assholes that I have ever encountered on the road.

My driving experience is limited to Australia and the USA, so I have no doubt that there are far worse places. However, Seattle is noticeably worse than anywhere else I have been. Below is my asshole ranking, of the cities that I have spent the most time driving in.
  • 10 Seattle
  • 7 LA
  • 6 San Francisco
  • 3 Sydney
  • 2 Melbourne
  • 2 Tampa
  • 1 Adelaide
The thing that really gets me fired up is when people speed up, to stop you from merging. I almost never encountered that, in my home town. Over here, it’s like a 50-50 thing.

20 years ago, when I moved here, you hardly ever saw that. I had moved from Atlanta and thought people here were kind of slow, generally courteous goofballs on the road. But I didn’t shut the gate behind me, and people kept coming, and coming, and the traffic got worse, and worse, and people got a lot pissier out on the road. I think traffic wore people down, and driving culture from other places moved in.

I believe it was I90 , when I first saw this , it was unbelievable . I'll bet it was miles for a truck to pass another . IT looked like traffic was backed up for miles .

You haven't driven thru the Salt lake Valley ?

I've driven all over the usa
Salt Lake city is the worst place in the USA I've driven.
Right lane flies, left lane crawls. People cut you off constantly. Mormons are crazy I guess.
Almost been in many wrecks in Salt Lake.

Nothing compares to 2nd and 3rd world countries though. Every time I get in a vehicle when in cambodia, peru or even Korea, I accept my death. Whole different level.

Living on hw 2 there is very few areas to pass, and less evey year. I have and will pass multiple cars because no one else will!
What really pisses me off os when someone driving slow for the past 20 miles speeds up once a passing lane opens up. Another one is when they speed up when you are trying pass them.

People fucking suck!
Typical passive aggressive behavior of Washington drivers…

Fastest stretch of hiway in the USA?
I made pretty good time on I 90 in South Dakota where the speed limit is 80, but many go faster.

How about this trick, there’s a long merge lane and left of it cars are crawling or stopped. There always one jerk that will pass them all until the last possible moment and wants in.
