NFR Misinformation susceptibility test

Non-fishing related
I failed, but I am happy with my results, considering its from a university...
I am definitely "overly skeptical when. It comes to the news."

It's an anonymous test of susceptibility to misinformation. I got a 20 out of 20 on the MIST-20 test.😎 Is it easy, or am I wicked smaaht?
I went 15/16, with a -1 for skeptical. IMHO, it's more important to be accurate than extreme on either side...yeah, you're wicked smaaaht!

They need a test to examine how well we can discern real from fake fishing reports & fish weight calculation from long arm photos.
Yeah, this!

Good way to tell on a lot of them: If the article is telling you how to feel about something, or who to blame, or is obviously trying to get you mad about something... It's probably not based in reality.

If an article is a boring retelling of things that happened - you're probably doing ok.

Very cool study. In the current climate, I feel like everyone in the country needs to use this. Although, a lot of folks that score low will probably attribute it to the deep state or something. πŸ˜‚

Results attached; 100% fake, 75% real.

Not clicking on that. That’s what they want us to do. I do my own research! I heard from my neighbor who has a friend whose gut feeling is that it’s a bunch of bunk put out there by the kind of folks who champion β€œcritical thinking”, β€œfact-based” reasoning, and the β€œscientific method”.

Can’t fool me!

Fake test, I ain't takin it.

cheers

I will say that in my experience over the last several years, I've learned that a LOT of people don't particularly care if a story is accurate or based in reality. If it tells them what they want to hear, or confirms their biases, then that's all they need. You can show them ten times over how it isn't actually accurate, and they'll dig in even more. All that matters is confirmation bias, and the publications know it.

Conclusions and objectives are chosen before a story is even decided on.

Better to say nothing and be deemed a fool then to speak and confirm it. Mark Twain
