Here's my annual baseball commentary/opinion/rant.

I like the pitch clock to help speed up the game. I'd like to see the batter stay in the box between pitches and stop re adjusting their batting gloves after every pitch (even if they don't swing). I'm indifferent to the bigger bases and I think it's kinda dumb to enforce a no shift rule. Players should be able to put all 9 fielders in the infield if they want. It's the hitter who needs to learn to hit it where they ain't.

Aren't the Mariners about where we all expected them to be with a third of the season remaining?

I posted several years ago about how impressed I and everyone else should be regarding Ohtani's extraordinary hitting and pitching. He's putting up numbers that has never been seen. Even being the NBA MVP and Defensive Player of the Year isn't even comparable because everybody in the NBA plays both. But nobody has hit and pitched in decades for the entire season, putting up the numbers he has. And Ohtani has been doing it for a number of years.

Finally, why in the wild, wild world of sports are umpires calling balls and strikes if they have the strike zone on the screen that can do it so much better and without controversy? Let umpires manage the game but take away their ability to call balls and strikes when they get so many wrong and it's so obvious. Either get rid of the strike zone on the screen or take that part of the game out of the umpire's hands. If I were an umpire and went back and saw how many calls I missed over the course of the game according to the electronic strike zone, I'd be pissed, embarrassed, and be the first one to admit electronics is way better than human judgement. I love the challenges in tennis...if they can detect within a millimeter of a ball being in or out of the line, balls and strikes by humans needs to go.

I agree, it is a strange dichotomy having the strike zone superimposed on the screen then having umpires make a complete mockery of it with their blunders. I don't agree with those that say the technology isn't developed enough yet. Why not? This stupid shit has been going on for years and still no movement to incorporate accuracy into the system. Every player that signs a MLB contract should be measured and his stats put into a data base so when he comes to bat his very own strike zone is displayed. A player that is 5'7'' should have a far different sized strike zone than a guy that is 6'5''. Baseball is famous for all of the arcane stats they generate, keeping track of a players height shouldn't be that big a deal.

Time to check in with those amazing young Royals. On the last weekend of July, those amazing young Royals completed their first 3-game win streak of the season. Yup, let that sink in .... last week of July and they had their first 3-game win streak, came as a result of a 3-game sweep of the division-leading Twins. They have now followed that up with a 3-game sweep of the Mets; that makes a 6-game win streak. I can hear the shouts already, "break up those amazing young Royals". Look out world, here they come, now at a 0.318 clip.

Cheers for the Royals!!

Indeed, makes 'em look like part of this outfit sometimes.

It doesn’t matter when the streak happens as long as it happens. They seem to be on a roll. Every team that makes the playoffs or close to it goes ion a streak. The M’s have been ping ponging the first half. They have the talent especially in arm talent to ride out a 15 out of 20 streak and follow it up with winning a few series they’ll be 90+ in wins. At 90 + there is always a chance.

Of course all can fall apart
too. 😬

Glad the Ms pulled out a sweep, and getting closer to a wild card spot. That being said, Ohtani's season is incredible. Feels like all his homers have the loudest crack

Oh Tani! Oh Tani! Oh Tani!
