2027 MLB Spring Training Countdown
Helping baseball fans survive the winter.www.springtrainingcountdown.com
Hope springs eternal!!
Royals and Mariners face each other in the LCS this year, showcasing 2 of the brightest young stars in the game. Of course, Royals win in 7 to move to the WS, which they win in 6 (you heard it here first).
Yeah, I'm board!!
Cheers
While I'm not geographically bound, I'm emotionally bound to the mariners. I have too much invested to just quit on them. If they never win a world series, so be it. While that will be disappointing, I'm not expecting big things. Here's what I do expect:Masochist: "A person who enjoys an activity that appears to be painful or tedious." You Mariner fans need to look in the mirror and see if you match that description. If so there is an obvious solution-pick another team to root for. Seriously, after 46 years of ineptitude and frustration why do you continue to punish yourselves? They are the only team in baseball that has never been in a World Series and look no closer to it now than in 1977.
I started following the Dodgers back in 1948 when they were "Dem Bums!" A laughable bunch of losers that were real characters. I was playing Little League ball at the time living halfway between Chicago and St Louis in Illinois. My teammates all rooted for either the Chicago teams or the St Louis teams and I chose the Dodgers just to be a contrarian. Those were tough times to be a Dodger fan as the Yankees always kicked their ass. But in 1955 they broke the curse and won their first World Series. I went into the Air Force in 1956 and when I got out in 1960 they had moved to LA. My parents also had moved to LA by then and when I got "home" I was a Dodger fan almost by default. Koufax and Drysdale came along and captured my interest and the Dodgers became respectable with their move to Chavez Ravine. Vin Scully, probably the best announcer of all time, made the game enjoyable and was never a 'homer' like so many of today's announcers.
You are not geographically bound to be Mariners fans. When I moved from California to the PNW forty three years ago I could never warm up to the Mariners. I liked Dave Niehaus but always felt like he was flogging a dead horse. The M's 47% winning percentage over 46 years pretty much confirms that. Although I still like the Dodgers I don't mind them getting beat by a better team, I just love good baseball
Winning (last year) resulted in them being the #1 most profitable MLB team in 2022. Hopefully they realize that winning generates profits. The Mariners are a highly successful baseball team. I hear that they consistently turn a profit for the owners. Why focus on winning or pleasing the fans if it cuts into the profit margin. Screw that! If winning made the owners more money than mediocrity, they would probably take some interest in that.
That is just silly. The Mariners are a highly successful baseball team. I hear that they consistently turn a profit for the owners. Why focus on winning or pleasing the fans if it cuts into the profit margin. Screw that! If winning made the owners more money than mediocrity, they would probably take some interest in that.
I hope so. But the owners don't inspire me to think otherwise. That is just silly.
It's a business, and if you think making money in a business is silly, or unimportant, you don't really have much a grip on the reality of professional sports today. That is just silly.
I do not think it is silly to make money. Who the fuck do you know who thinks like that? It is not possible to lose money through winning a bunch of games. Tell you what, when we win the WS, and if it is not a profitable year, I will buy you a new Chevrolet. It's a business, and if you think making money in a business is silly, or unimportant, you don't really have much a grip on the reality of professional sports today.
The Mariners will not be in Seattle by winning lots of games and losing money , they will be in Seattle if they lose lots of games and make money.
Fact...plain and simple
The top two teams that lost money in 2022 made the playoffs: The Mets ($138.5M) and the Padres (55.2M). Another playoff team, the Blue Jays, lost $33.7 million, fourth between the White Sox ($53.4M) and the Twins ($30.3M).It is not possible to lose money through winning a bunch of games.
Thats not from winning, thats from poor management, and I am talking strickly the Mariners here. The top two teams that lost money in 2022 made the playoffs: The Mets ($138.5M) and the Padres (55.2M). Another playoff team, the Blue Jays, lost $33.7 million, fourth between the White Sox ($53.4M) and the Twins ($30.3M).

Looks like you can win games and lose money.

But they would make a whole lot more if they won a World Series. I lived in St Louis the last time they did it. I think it was a pretty fucken profitable year for them, and the local economy to boot. Who ever is wrong or right, your ideals in my opinion just do not apply to Mariners baseball.Mariners must have good management then, they make money.

The Mariners traded away a solid reliever for two average players. I think it was a poor decision.
