Holey moley, nice smallie! 4X tippet? Were you trout fishing and if so care to share what trout fly that hawg inhaled?

Yep targeting trout, 4x tippet. Black #8 balanced leach.

Chasing trout in Ohio last week, saw stirring in the weeds and decided the rainbows could wait. In one corner (pic) they were stacked in and plenty assertive. The same spot afforded a dozen or so..

Thanks! Yes on the bird's nest - a lot of local lakes and ponds are managed by the "Metro Parks" who do quite a bit of wildlife preservation. We don't have nearly the landscape and wilderness that the PNW enjoys, but they make up for a lot with resources and management like I've never seen anywhere else

That rolled nest is variously called a "hen house" or "rolled mallard nest"; an artificial mallard nest that has been used successfully to significant increase mallard nesting and nesting success.
