Political threads always go sideways.
This thread was not started as political. It was about moving to the panhandle and what it is like. A beautiful place, lower cost of living, some real weather and a lot of outside activities. All about living. No wonder he wanted to know more.
If we believe the news, it is the wild, wild west. Politics is large part of that. Several took it into politics and that was a disservice to the OP. Not what he asked about. And that is not what Idaho is all about.
When people ask about where to live in Washington, is politics the main consideration? Nope. Traffic, quality of hunting and fishing, lack of steelhead, WDFW, quality/accessibility of medical care, how costly it is to live in Washington get talked about a lot more. Look at how many serial rapists/killers are related to Washington? Should that define what Washington is all about? No. There are about twice as many 'hate groups' in Washington as Idaho. But do we talk about that? Thankfully no...
How many of us go fishing in Idaho? A lot! Do we make our choice of where to go fishing based on politics? Nope...
Idaho is a great place. One just needs to look at their own goals and see if Idaho meets most of them. If so, a move will be considered.
I hope @Roper got better info privately than what appeared in this thread. @Roper and Idaho deserve that.

All I know is when I lived in Spokane briefly out of high school, I became pretty fascinated with the Panhandle. Loved exploring and visiting that area a lot. Made a friend that lived near Hayden Lake and spent time around there quite a bit. Met some great people. So I have good feelings about the place despite it's oft reported less desirables... But literally every area has their own brand of those types.
It wasn't baiting IMO - he stated his reasoning for wanting to relocate. There's a lot of ways that could have been worded to bait a clash over the matter. We should be able to express these types of things without someone getting their feathers ruffled. Just stating you don't like something, whether it's politics or food, is a lot different than saying "all people who like well done steaks are knuckle dragging idiots." Someone not liking something you like shouldn't be interpreted as an attack on you.

I hear you but I also think that mentioning anything political these days is going to potentially ruffle some feathers. I think we all know this by now. That’s why IMO it’s best to just not to do it in the first place.
I get it. It's just not how we want to run things here. We think people should be able to state opinions and have discussions without it spiraling out of control, and for the most part, we've been able to do that. We'd rather keep peoples' reactions under control than police what opinions can be stated in a benign manner.
Whether someone says they like or dislike Inslee, Biden, Trump, Justin Bieber, or Miracle Whip... we would hope the vast majority of us can say "fair enough" and move on without reading it as an attack on them.

Yeah, some lines might not be cross-able in a public forum.
Miracle Whip would be a fine topic, just as long as it is understood it is not to be put on bacon!!
@Roper, good luck with your search, hope you're able to find what you are looking for. We too might be in search of some land, but it would be in central NY state, wouldn't mind in Idaho, but the drive back and forth would be a ....

I lived with my grandparents in Honeyoye until I was 9 years old. Went to a K-12 central school. I’m sure it’s grown up around there now, but it was really rural back then.

I lived in the Rapid Lighting Creek area, a bit NE of Sandpoint, back in the 80's.
Beautiful country. Can get a bit chilly in the winter. Spring thaw can be an adventure.
Really great small stream fishing, all around. Of course there's Lake Pend Oreille and the Clark Fork. Never had much luck fishing the Pack River, it's some beautiful water, just tough for fish.
There was plenty of game; deer, bear, grouse, etc.
Spent winters working and skiing @ Schweitzer.
Good people, great place.
