Puget Sound Fly Co Future

Outstanding Gift Card balances are typically dealt with between the Purchaser and the Seller of a business at the time of transfer, therefor alleviating the issue.

Well then, I wonder if prepaid movie passes (line Regal or AMC) that weren’t used for 2 1/2 years because of covid, are still accepted. None of them have expiration dates.

Legally, it probably depends on how the sale was structured. Did he just buy up their inventory or the business entity and all it’s debts, obligations etc.?

That said, If it were me, regardless of the legal mumbo jumbo (sorry to use such technical jargon :)), I’d give a new business owner a break and a lose any unused gift cards to the old shop. Tough enough as it is being a new, small business owner, especially in the ff industry.

I think this is legally correct.

I think this is morally correct as well (at least for me personally).

We gotta support these shops as best we can or we're going to lose them forever.

I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night and I concur with both the above statements.

Cheers

The money I receive for a gift certificate goes into that days sales total. Granted they are usually 10-25$ at the most, not 1000$ fly rods, and I'm selling food not durable goods that last much much longer. I never keep track of them, in my mind the customer is exchanging real money for my token that can only be used at my store.. Maybe I'm doing it wrong 🤷‍♀️

So why is this subject even being discussed on this board?

A small business closed and a new one opened up in the same place with a different name. The business/contractual deal between those two companies, if there is one, is none of our business.

We have no legal standing in the matter.

We have no/limited legal nor accounting expertise. If we did, we should be charging for that expertise once we are under contract for specified surfaces.

Our interest is regarding a new fly fishing shop very opening soon. If we want to support it, which I hope we do, is to welcome them, spread the word on the street they exist, and buy products so they can keep the lights on.

Good luck to the new fly fish shop. Like too many small businesses they will need all the good luck that they can muster.

The reason for the subtle name change is that they had some customers confused by the name "Fly Company" thinking they only sold flies, not everything else.
When PSFC was originally located in Des Moines, I remember some people coming in to pay for their energy bill. Perhaps the name change was a very long time in coming. 😉

Ah I remember the Des Moines shop well. I bought an Orvis stripping basket that I still use and love today!!!

Ok. Grand opening today until 4pm.

From my understanding he bought the inventory and that's it. Not sure if he'll completely change name eventually. I think he just wanted a definite change since it's not the same shop anymore.

This is now a veteran owned business. He was actually a part of my PHWFF program.

Very cool all around!

Has anyone swung by and checked out the tying section? Anygood?

Went and spent a little money last weekend. Matt has the place cleaned up and looking nice. Very similar inventory but he is carrying a few new tying items that are pretty cool. Sure to attract a fly tyer if not a fish. I'll be back for more.....

Nice to see people supporting a new small business.

That is what our community does..

I stopped in there a couple weeks ago. Matt made me a new tip, and I took the time to scope everything out at the fly tying section. While its not a huge section, I think that he has done well with stocking the most important stuff.

I'm biased. Matt is considered family. I met him through Project Healing Waters when he came in as a combat wounded Marine. Became friends, then entered my private fishing crew, which is reserved for people I consider family. I'm really proud of what he's done. Here's some behind the scenes pics.

After a PHWFF trip on the OP I told Matt about the Marine owned Fat Smittys. They were open as we drove home so took him out for a Fat Smitty

In a PHWFF camp after a day fishing the Cowlitz. That's Paul Huston to the right.

Taking a lunch break on one of our private trips. Matt is the one standing.

Again I can't say enough good things about this man. He'll stand behind his word. We call each other brother, and we mean it. Hopefully he'll get some of the supply issues fixed soon.
