Yearly check ups... please

So, I am just reminding everybody PLEASE go to your doctor for your yearly well check/physical. As a cancer survivor I try to preach the word about getting a colonoscopy, it saved me. They are way easier than all the other stuff you go through if you don't get one. Also, they are finding higher rates of colon cancer in younger people, so it's not just old people.

We have to advocate for ourselves, we have to not put off going to get something checked out, don't wait.

Again PLEASE get screened!

Here is a bit of humor to go along with this subject...

And for you 'vintage' members... don't forget to have your PSA checked!

Statistically speaking, nearly everyone over 65 will have some type of prostate cancer. My understanding is that most prostate cancers are slow moving and entirely curable - a term that is almost never used in regard to cancer.

The PSA test is a good early warning system. For the sake of your loved ones, just do it!

Every year. What’s funny is my insurance requires 369 days for a physical to be covered. So in the past decade plus I have gone from January physicals to now March. And it’s odd because I always have to call in and get my prescription refill before my physical. Prescription is for 365 days. Just weird. Some angle being worked.

Yearly, I get it done…and more.

trying to get a doctors appointment is crazy. I have to schedule my follow ups 6 months in advance in order to guarantee an appointment. Not only does one have to be proactive but also willing to schedule out a few months. Lord help me if I get sick…

There are exceptions. Lost two friends to prostrate cancer, one in their 40's and the other in their 50's to virulent fast moving PC. Thankfully, the majority of PC are very slow growing and largely benign and respond well to current treatments.

I believe thats a Medicare rule also, can't get the wellness check a bit early ,it's got to be a year . I believe not even a day or two.

You younger guys shouldn't be lax about getting a PSA test either. The man who was once my 16-year old foster son was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer at 42. He had surgery, retained all function, and is now about 65. The PSA is a simple blood draw.

Also a cancer survivor, that makes this personal.

That's a Medicare limitation, Medicare Advantage plans are different and can add extra coverage.*
Not in Medicare but just odd. Have first choice insurance.
😮

The plans from the Healthcare Insurance company I retired from and the current Medicare Advantage plan I have is once per calendar year for Medicare Wellness, Physical, and Eye exams. EVERY YEAR, read Your Specific Plan's Evidence Of Coverage document (the actual contract, not the "Summary"), search for "physical" and "wellness". Or call Customer Service to ask, and have them send you the document. Do not take the Doctor's receptionist's word for it. If it's a calendar year benefit save it to your phone to show the receptionist if they balk at it because they often do.

*Adding, I am not slamming the receptionists. They just don't know and are trying to keep us from getting stuck with an unexpected charge. Educate them.

As a preacher of colonoscopy I will remind most people it is no worse than a bad fly or bad night out over indulging. And a really bad case of the sh*ts is WAY easier on you and your family than being told you have cancer and all that comes with it!
