Floated in the canyon, from Reds down to Big Pine, in Jake's beautiful wooden canoe that he built!
There weren't many on the river, maybe 4 other drift boats. Launched about 10:15am and took our time. Fishing was slow but Jake hooked a few and landed one.
Weather was fantastic, and the pass was just slush. Lots of skiers up there, the entrance to the ski areas was backed up onto the freeway and the conditions looked awesome!
This was my first time that I've floated the Yakima in a canoe and I got used to the rocking of the canoe eventually. I started off white knuckling it and gradually got more comfortable and relaxed. Not enough to fish while floating, but the canoe moves so much faster than a raft or drift boat and we cruised from spot to spot!
Used my life jacket for the first time and it was incredibly comfortable!
So I wasn't going to mention this part, but know Jake won't mind. After we got to the takeout, got the boat unloaded and Jake got the canoe back up on the car, we had a few beers, I lit up a cigar and chilled while Jake got on of his older drones out to play with! He gets it off the ground, and flies it out over the water, it's just above the water, and is down really close and I'm like, aren't you worried about losing it! Then it hits the water, skips like you're throwing a flat rock and stays airborne! We both laughed and started talking about the drone and other cool shit Jake has as a professional photographer. He's flying the drone back toward us, still low, and I ask about losing it again, it literally nose dives into the river! A mother trucking suicide drone! I guess it was depressed or something! LOL!
Jake and I look at each other, and almost burst out laughing.. it's an older drone, he's got a replacement for it anyways! I suggest that he goes out and at least see if he can see it in the water, but it crashed in fast water and is probably tumbling down the river as we speak! The only thing that could have made it better was if I was shooting video of the drone... still will be able to picture this shite anytime I want! Sad and funny, actually hilarious, at the same time!
Had a great day and got back about an hour ago, around 7pm. I introduced Jake to the famous corn dog by the ski areas! Some pictures, although we didn't take many. Had an absolute blast!!
