Doesn't need to be minty, just in good working condition.

Took it out yesterday lined up with a Rio short belly in 7/8 (520gr). First impressions
  • Feels like more than just an incremental increase in power over the SageX 7130. I usually go with the 'A' column in the Rio line recommendations, but I might be going with the B (8/9) for this stick.
  • Good lifting power, easy to pick up a sink tip and large fly.. no shake or shimmy, really amazing how stable the rod is.
  • Stability comes at a price I suppose, and that shows up a bit during the cast. It's not a broomstick by any stretch, but it's not as adept at casting short as my 7wt. At least I struggled until I got about 20' of the head out... not as in couldn't turn the fly over, just wasn't making tight loops that would counter-act the wind.
  • This rod 'needs' to be cast from the lower portion of the taper; over-rotate and it'll make you look stoopid.
Overall I'm really happy with the purchase and look forward to the river dropping into shape so I can get more reps with it. I was really looking for my 7wt with more huevos, and so far this seems to fit the bill. I have 3 old SA UST 3d scandi's that are too heavy for my 7wt and I'm anxious to line this stick up with them.
