I'm curious if many do. I saw an advertisement/preview for it recently and it looks like it would be worse than watching a soap opera. I wonder what the draw is?

In independent studies it's found those who enjoy such things are of well below average IQ. I didn't even watch it as a kid. It's like something out of the movie idiocracy. Now that's a profound movie in that I feel like the nation moves closer to it every day. It's only a matter of time before obese Americans have that toilet chair in front of the television. It's the next big thing. I'm investing heavily in the toilet chair research and marketing.

Well a presidential candidate might show up.
And another presidential candidate might just claim to have shown-up when he defeated Verne Gagne & Andre the Giant back in the day. ;)

I’m more keen on a real sport - Roller Derby

Rollerball with James Caan is as relevant now as it ever was. Imagine a society using a violent sport as bread and circus to distract and control the masses while keeping them drugged and obedient crushing any questions of opposition or intent while encouraging fandom. Totally crazy huh. That would never happen.

Show me any rabid sports fan and I'll show you someone with something missing in their life. Yeah, I said it. And yes, it's true. That's no knock on sport. I like to play and think young people should play. You also get a pass of being a rabid fan if your kid or kids you know are on the team. Pro sports though are just simple bread and circus. I frankly don't know how people have time for it. And those ten dollar warm beers really add up.

Never did. Used to tease my son when he was watching it about age ten or so. I'd say in a deep manly voice "W-W-E-!" . . . Then in a girly voice say "Smack down!" .. and lightly tap him on the head.

I work with him now so pay back is hell.

I remember staying at my grandparents in the 1950's and watching the likes of Gorgeous George and others 'wrestle'. They'd hoot and holler when a favorite was getting bashed or finally reigned triumphant.

Once, as a 5 year old, I got quite upset about some situation...and my grandmother looked at me and said..."don't be upset honey...you know this is all just make-believe".

Humans haven't changed...but the pervasiveness of the medium has...some people are helplessly drawn to spectacle, however contrived.

Public hangings were once quite popular entertainment in Spokane and elsewhere....my grandfather witnessed one as a child..and was forever sickened by the memory.

I suspect the same could happen to those who succumbed to watching the Kardashians.

TV in general is not my thing, but wrestling, reality TV, 24 hour news and such is the worst of all. But I miss the appeal of a lot of things, so...

Sells advertising evidently, and in the TV world that's all that matters.
As a friend of mine who spent 5 decades in the movie/TV business told me :

"It's called show business for a reason, not show art. If you all didn't watch garbage, we most certainly would not make garbage, but you do...so we so."

Don Owens and PNW Wrestling on Saturday nights from Sandy Barr’s Flea Market…woot woot!!

Met Andre the Giant, Jesse the body Ventura, Jimmy super fly Snuka, Dutch Savage, Playboy Buddy Rose, Matt Bourne, and others.

Great time growin’ up as a teen in the 70s. 😁

Pretty much sums up today’s society and the leaders. Well put… 😉😁
