We've shared this on our site but the world just isnt getting out and this local forum does it best. We’ve always prided ourselves on being more than just innovators in the fly fishing world we try our best to be community builders. For years, we’ve embraced jig tying as a gateway drug to fly tying, opening the door for anyone to sit at the vise. Whether you’re tying a 4/0 bucktail jig or a size 20 Adams, we’re here to help you succeed and connect with the sport. Our mission is simple: to create connections between tying styles and approaches. Jig tiers often face challenges with traditional processes like pouring lead and painting jigs, which can be messy, time-consuming, and limiting time for creativity. Meanwhile, slotted tungsten beads have been a staple in fly tying for years, offering ease of use and unparalleled versatility.

Now, we’re bridging the gap between these two worlds. With our new Fathom beads, we’re bringing the advantages of tungsten slotted beads to the jig tying community. These beads are not just tools; they’re a glimpse into the future of jig tying we believe and are MASSIVE. 8mm and 4 grams!
  • Ease of Use: No more pouring or painting. Slide a Fathom Bead onto your favorite hook and start tying.
  • Customizable: Experiment with different hooks, materials, and patterns effortlessly.
  • Lead-Free: Perfect for regions where lead is outlawed, keeping you ahead of the curve with environmentally friendly alternatives.
  • Versatility: Whether you’re tying for chuck-and-duck fly fishing techniques or creating conventional jigs, these beads unlock endless possibilities.

holy shit! I may have to order a pack for a tiger musky pattern I've been concocting....may need to wear a helmet. lol

Here I thought the 5.5mm that I use for some of my winter steelhead nymphing were big!

On this subject, slotted beads are GREAT weights when using an egg pattern (or any other fly/nymph that needs added weight).

They just don't tangle like split shots.

Cheaper to just slide a tungsten bullet weight onto the leader -- 1/8 is easy, but you can go bigger... but you're going to want that helmet! :)

oh, tried that...still have some in my bag....just in case. lol

bucktail jig or
Funky funky mop bombs incoming. This might be peak Shimano.

I’ve fished a lot of brass/pin jigs under tungsten weights on light braid. Fixed float, long rod. Pretty effective in the coast range but the tangles can get tiresome. Lot to like about a single big tung jig.

I’m going to try some more to roll cast these with an 8wt single Spey line and a bobber but first forays ain’t great. 4mm/6wt is a neat trout rig (with no indicator) but I don’t know if it’ll get deep enough or be meaty enough in the winter.

It's pretty easy with my SH 8wt & nymphing line.

What hook and hook size would you recommend for these, for both salt and freshwater?

just ordered some of the 8mm plus some 4/0 jig hooks to play around with....this could be fun.

I’m thinking of all sorts of things to do with this. This is a pink year, and pinks love getting jiggy with it! @SpawnFlyFish when do you anticipate the different colors coming in?
