Winthrop Area Spring Fishing

Ultibum

Just Hatched
I'm heading to Winthrop for four days of lake fly fishing. I've only fished in this area of Eastern Washington in the fall. I'm looking for advice on lakes, flies, and techniques to use. And if I should expect any top water bite? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!!

Make sure you have a heavy anchor to hold you down when the wind comes up. The lakes in this area have a bottom structure different from other lakes that only require a 10# anchor. Chironomids have been the staple and the fishermen will tell you where to anchor up. The callibaetis hatch has been sporadic for me but others might offer more on the top bite.

Chronies / San Juan worms can produce very well in many of the lakes over there. And, of course, woolly bugger type flies. I usually have three rods in the boat and put an emerger on one of them just in case.

Don't ignore the shallows even with a chronie. I have had good success even in 2' of water.

Safe travels to ya.
